Positives -
They won.
Another good 3 point percentage game from Baker (every game so far).
Good rebounding numbers from the 3 big guys that played.
Another solid all around game from Brandon.
No turnovers listed, and 3 steals from Fields at the point guard position.
Good team defense to hold the opponent to 38 points.
10 steals.
6 blocked shots.
Negatives -
Poor shooting game as a team on the 2 point shots.
Poor shooting game as a team on the 3 point shots.
Poor shooting game as a team from the free throw line.
Too few assists - 7.
Too many turnovers - 17.
Overall I am beginning to wonder if they will be a decent enough 3 point shooting team to make it through the season with the number of wins that they seem otherwise capable of achieving. If not then teams will pack the lane tightly against them with a zone to negate the inside play of Brandon, Denzel, Talley, Porter, and Kah. Hopefully BJ (and others) can pick up their shooting percentage in that area by the time November rolls around. Also needs to do far better with the free throws during the season than they showed in this game. Still time to improve those areas though.
Good report, thanks. Way too early to get either excited or worried. That said, the free throw shooting percentage is a huge worry for me. This not only can be fixed -- it must be fixed.

RE: Men's Basketball Spain Trip
Does anyone know/think that the coaches are doing any recruiting on this trip?

RE: Men's Basketball Spain Trip
ODU MBB will leave Spain with a 3-1 record! 5 monarchs in double figures! 4th Quarter the Monarchs outscored their opponents 25 to 14.
FINAL SCORE ODU 85 Union Sportive Toulouges (France), 48
The men showed intensity and perseverance as the trip continued to move on and the team learned from their past mistakes and took advantage of execution. Each rematch Coach Jones made adjustments and shared his insights and observation with the team to teach and lead the team to elevate their performance each time they stepped on to the court. The Monarchs were too much for Union Sportive Toulouges (France) and yesterdays 15 point rout (55-40) became a 37 point trouncing (85-48) today.

I think we saw a microcosm of what's the come -- lots of guys capable of making meaningful contributions from night to night. Maybe Brandan is the one consistent force, but one night it'll be Caver, one night Talley, one night Haynes. Nobody's stats will be eye-popping, but I predict it'll be very effective. Very excited.

Also, these were BJ's first games against an opponent in over a year. I would say that he passed that test. Cannot wait to see him get comfortable. I really like the fact that he was making a serious effort to get to the rim. I had never seen him play and I was thinking that he was a spot up shooter. Not the case.

Thanks for the link DaBig. I liked Jones analysis. He didn't pull any punches and told us exactly what to expect. Can't wait for the season to start.
