I'm not sure I would go so far as to say he hasn't accomplished anything. Whether what he has done to this point would be enough is a much different question.
I wouldn't be worried if it was UGA. But GA Tech shares too many similarities plus the weather is more temperate in Atlanta than Houston for me not to be concerned. I would not be surprised if they at least took a look.
Pastner has to be kind of unsettled with this development. He just got there and was maligned in the local media before he even starts his first season. Now his biggest cheerleader is gone. On the other hand, Paul Johnson's likely bought himself some more time with this development.

Perhaps I should have said "anything significant enough" meaning anything visible beyond the hedges.
Weird move, although understandable only because this AD has Midwestern roots. Is Paul Johnson really dealing with a warm seat? He's won three ACC Coastal division titles since 2009 and won Ga Tech's first conference championship since 1998.

Right now, the Ga Tech alumns I know want to run Johnson out after last season. Ga Tech football is not Rice football. They've won a National Championship, after all. Their expectations are much higher than ours are right now. And they still have the rigorous academics to deal with--plus, their overall academic program offerings are not as well-rounded as at Rice, so if you're not going to be a math/science type major, there's far fewer places for players to hide.
couple of interesting comments found on some Ga Tech boards might give JK some pause:
Quote:WOW! Didn't see this one coming. Although not surprising since he is from ND. He gets a bad rap by a lot of people but his hands were tied from above.
Quote:IMO both he and Rad is an indication of how tough it is to work with our school and our faculty dominated board; I know this was a component of Rad's dissatisfaction....I can't state that for MBob; I just suspect its a small part of it...(under the job satisfaction category)
of course most fans will like this so they will gloss over potential reasons why....
Quote:My worry is many within the department say that Bud and the Admin were hindering MBob and that is who will be making our next AD hire.
Quote:Early word on Twitter is it's a great hire for Purdue.
We'll see...but expectations for Purdue athletics is totally different than at GT where we've had success in pretty much every major men's and women's sports before MBob got here.
Quote:It all starts with a supportive admin. Unfortunately, I doubt we have that. We'll hire another guy who wants to do stuff but has one hand tied behind his back.
Quote:How about hiring a good AD capable of running a strong athletic program (all sports)
Upgrading facilities and building an endowed program.
Quote: Being capable and being allowed/empowered to do what is necessary to achieve those things are two completely different things my man.
Quote:Dont let the door hit him in the ***.
Quote:Hopefully there are some powerful alums who understand the value of athletics who will force the hands of Bud and the Admin.

Fair enough, they did have their worst season last year in 20 years.
Quote:Sterk, 60, recently named AD of the year by National Association of College Directors of Athletics, was about to start his seventh year at San Diego State. He’s under contract there through June 30, 2020, with a base salary of $315,000....
...
Sterk, 60, has no obvious Missouri ties. He has spent the last six years at San Diego State after serving as athletic director at Washington State from 2000-10 and Portland State from 1995-2000. He is a native of Nooksack, Wash., and a graduate of Western Washington University.
One person familiar with Missouri’s current situation who knows Sterk said he believed the AD would be a good fit and described him as “not a flashy guy but very balanced, great experience, very ethical and really steady.”

Just saw this summary of Paul Johnson's accomplishments at GA Tech. Compare to Coach Bailiff at Rice:
Paul Johnson's resume while at GA Tech includes one ACC title, two Orange Bowls, two 11-win seasons, three ACC title-game appearances, three wins in five tries at Georgia, three ACC coach-of-the-year awards, three Top 25 finishes, one top-10 finish and only one — one — bad season over nine years.
Travel back in Ga Tech history and see if you find a Yellow Jackets’ football coach who has accomplished that, against this difficult academic/economic backdrop.

Well, Bobby Ross won a share of the national title in 1990, and 2 ACC titles total, in just 5 years, where his first 2 years had 5 wins total. But he only beat Georgia in 2 of his 5 years.

BTW- here's the article on new GA Tech AD Todd Stansbury that the information came from (he played for Bill Curry at Ga tech and served as an assistant athletic director under Homer Rice, before leaving to run athletics at East Tennessee State, Central Florida and Oregon State. Peterson squeezed the budget to get Stansbury, presumably paying his near $2 million buyout at Oregon State to get him back to Ga Tech as AD):
