Maybe that's it. They just don't care anymore

When he took the job has two very good recruits coming in and a talented but still saw big man returning at center. Since that time we have lost the top recruit we had coming in and our only returning big man and replaced them with some lower level recruits. Thank God that Rivers had already signed his LOI of we may have lost him too.

I'm not sure how good this kid will be or if he'll be able to stay healthy, but I'll be rooting for him.

It would be a great story if he turned out to be a solid contributor.

But, seriously, this is a message board, no positive vibes are allowed!!!!

I mean, we can be positive, but it does depends on how one defines positive.

One can be positive in that it is good to have a 9th player on the team who has height and is excited to play.

One can be delusional (but claiming to be positive) and say this is a great get and the guy is going to be a player.

The reality is (just based on him in 2012 as a top 150 type player) he would be expected to be a limited role player who would likely only play mop-up time.

Now add four hip surgeries and not playing competitive ball in 4 years.

I think it would've been seen as a better addition had it happened while Nick Marshall was still in the fold.

Even if it's not, it is perceived as 'scrambling' by the staff.

Not sure when classes start, but they still have some time and there are still some guys on the board.

Unfortunately, if he were to pan out as a top 150 type player (as he was listed when he came out), I'd say that would put him as a major contributor on this squad, which would be both good and bad. Good in that we signed someone who contributed, and bad in that we had to rely on this level of player as a contributor.

Of course, adding in the other factors (injuries and lack of competitive basketball), I do think it's unlikely he contributes much at all. But, there's nothing wrong with rooting for the kid.

Hell, I'm going to even come up with a nickname for him ... how about Rykhoekie Monster? No? How about Chad "Skyhook" Rykhoek? No? How about Chad "The Rock" Rykheok? Still no? How about Chad "Fundamentals" Rykhoek? Alright, fine, I give up (I still like Skyhook Rykhoek though).

I'm rooting for the kid, too. Seems really nice.

I'm just disappointed in this staff's approach to this season. I think there are enough pieces on this team to make them an NCAA team WITH a couple of complementary pieces added. Unfortunately, no pieces were added and my perception is that they basically are taking a flyer on this year with the hope that goodwill/honeymoon will get them by.

New coach and basketball legend Coach Tubby Smith Just wanted to share a little of my recruiting story to show what kind of guy he is along with his assistants I was previously scheduled to visit Memphis tomorrow (Sunday) but found out late Wednesday night I needed to make my decision sooner , by Friday. At this point Coach Smith was out of town on vacation but proceeded not only to talk to me and my Mom on the phone multiple times around midnight but also offered to leave his vacation so that I could come visit the next day (Thursday) Turns out I decided to accept that offer as I really wanted to give Memphis a chance before committing elsewhere. So within about 15 hours me and coach were both landing in Memphis for the visit which was prepared for us overnight by Coach Esposito (Assistant) Another amazing thing is the fact that he chose to stick with us the entire visit touring around which is almost unheard of for a head coach to do . Needless to say it's going to be a great journey at U of M and I can't wait to get started and play for people of such high character

That guy needs to join this board. That would knock all that positive crap out of him a hurry.

Seriously though, didn't the last guy we recruited who hadn't played in a long time because of medical issues (surgeries and all) end up being our starting point guard and keep us from having a losing season? Let's see what the kid is made of. One thing's for sure -- he won't have high expectations to worry about.

Who are you talking about?

Tarrant?

He was CUSA ROY, played two years at Tulane injury free, transferred to Bama and was shut down the 2nd half of the year. He essentially missed 15 games.

I fear you are correct. The weird thing though is that they had to know Marshall was in trouble. So why the last minute scramble? And not to mention, the better the team you have, the better your recruiting chances going forward.
