A future LU could be attractive if we win games against P5's and since we will already be FBS there would be no transition. This is a what if type answer I don't know if we will be competitive like I hope we will.

It's clear LU is not in the SBC radar. And that is better for LU as the SBC is, and has been the entry level FBS stepping stone. LU's quest is beyond the SBC. Like them or not, agree with them or not, LU will eventually seek to be a member of the P5 club, not the G5. It's easy to throw stones at LU with their 5 year denial from the SBC, which paradoxically likely will propel LU faster than being a SBC member with their indy status. GaSt, solely due to it's metro location, will likely be a move-up candidate as size does matter in college sports, not from it's fan support or on field FB success, but metro area.

I'm a LU homer but LU getting into the P5 is not happening anytime soon if ever. Right now I just want to be able to win enough FBS games to make a bowl. Anything more than that is great but not expected.

My post was that LU would seek P5 status, as an indy, not with a conference affiliation with a ACC or SEC invitation, but akin as BYU.

Yeah that's not happening either. BYU has a long history and even won a National Championship. We don't have any of that.

I'm either not making myself clear or you are misunderstanding my posts. My thought is that the goal of the admins of LU is to be of P5 status. Not by conference affiliation, although that would be a big deal to wish for. If LU was a member of the SBC or CUSA or MAC, how many P5 game would be available for LU to schedule. Likely 2 at best. Example, App State in 2017 plays Georgia and Wake, the rest SBC conference and a FCS game. ODU plays NC and VT, CUSA conference games and Albany as their FCS. Northern Illinois of the MAC plays Nebraska and Boston College.

LU would be in the same situation if a member of the SBC, CUSA or MAC. But being indy, with lots of luck and creative scheduling, can LU play 3 or 4 P5 games? One would hope that is a possibility. And the more LU plays P5 teams, the more opportunities to win one like App over Michigan or JMU over VT. The possibility exists, which will be born out by the 2018 and beyond schedule where LU lies. I'm betting it's better than most believe will happen.
