RE: Since we're doing lists + rankings: CUSA Acceptance Rates
I have a niece that graduated ECU with a degree in nutrition last year.
However, there is a state board for licensing (like in real estate, etc). She failed the boards. Now what the hell is she supposed to do? She had a B average and did well in the program, but that program failed to properly prepare her for the real test that determines her employability in the field she chose. If there were deficiencies, the program should have sorted that out, vice granting her a degree that she now cannot parlay into the job she wants.
I blame the school. No way she should pass the program and not be ready for the state boards. ECU will not be a destination for my boys in the future. What a waste of four years and good money.

Sorry, it is too late (or too early?) in the day, but I have to ask: if LeBron James' mother had married the Rice president, would we know the King as LeBron Leebron?

Why? The goal of the top academic institutions isn't to educate the masses. Do you hate Ferrari too because they only make 1000 or so cars each year? Probably not... Ferrari has a different purpose than Ford or Toyota. The argument that education is only about cash flow when you get out is also highly debatable but it's not worth getting into on this thread (but btw Rice also probably has one of the top ROIs in the country and is listed as a top value school every year).
You're right there are a lot of worthless degrees now. One step forward shutting down ITT today.
Relax Owl fan, this guy is just envious. Rice is an outstanding institution. Most of us here understand this. By the way, I'm extremely proud to be an FIU grad, but this does not mean that I cannot admit that Rice is considered a better academic institution.
On a side note, my daughter has Rice in her final 7 choices. She is going to Houston at the end of September to visit Rice for the weekend. We are really excited for her. She has UChicago, and WashU in the lead now, but likes Rice a lot. The trip may change her mind.
As for worthless degrees, I couldn't agree more. Moreover, anyone who wants to teach or be a nurse is wasting their money by going to an Ivy League school, or even Rice. These fields do not pay enough to justify a pricey education. This does not mean that a degree from Rice doesn't produce "cash flow" as the ECU poster mentioned. With the right degree, the Rice education will pay off more than most other schools.

She's not going for the Baylor game is she? Please don't let her go to the Baylor game.

All great schools! Had lots of friends go to both and enjoy their time there. Good luck with the college selection process. Hopefully by the end of September we will get a cold front or two through Houston. It's nice to walk around campus and the city without having to deal with lingering summer heat. Visiting Rice really helped my selection, plus Rice throws around some merit $ unlike some of the other schools.

Hey, it's nice to even have the 7 choices. When I was entering my college applications, I had two or three and even then I knew it would be FAU or nothing...

It really has changed a lot. I had to tell my kids they couldn't apply to more than ten schools. They got accepted to about seven each. When I went through the process back in the 1970s I only applied to Rice.

She doesn't care about watching sports at all. Plays volleyball and works out, but Rice can have the worst team in the history of the world and it won't influence her decision at all. Unless, Rice decides to get "ugly" uniforms. Then you may have a problem. In her mind, there is no place for bad fashion!

Yeah, she amazes me. Doesn't know what a "B" looks like, and scored a 35 on her ACT. Still has time to play sports, plays guitar, paints, volunteers, etc. She's the real deal. Unlike the rest of her family. LOL. Her only flaw is she hates football. It's a problem.
