RE: Since we're doing lists + rankings: CUSA Acceptance Rates
These numbers are from 2015-16 (or marked otherwise) Common Data Sets, 25th and 75th percentiles for first-time freshmen for SAT combined and ACT composite:
Rice: 2070-2330, 32-35
UNT: 1460-1770, 20-26
UTSA: 1360-1690, 20-25
UTEP: 820-1050 (Two part), 17-23 (2014-15 Data)
LA Tech: 970-1230 (Two part), 21-27
USM: 895-1120 (Two part, The SAT counts by "10" so I'm confused by the 895), 19-26
UAB: Not Published, 22-28
MT: 950-1190 (Two part), 19-25 (2014-15 Data)
WKU: 870-1150 (Two part), 19-26
Marshall: 870-970 (Two part), 20-25
Charlotte: 1480-1740, 22-25
ODU: 920-1120 (Two part), 18-23 (2014-15 Data)
FIU: 1540-1790, 23-26
FAU: 1420-1690, 20-25
Note: For the SAT, I understand that there is a bit of a flaw in my methodology as the combined SAT 25th and 75th percentile is not listed. Instead, I just added the scores for each section together. Shouldn't make a difference for purposes of comparing schools, however.
GPA is a difficult statistic because high schools do it differently. Some have it on a 4.0 scale, others on a 100 point scale, etc...

It seems to be a regional thing. I went ahead and took both because I was applying all around the country. Plus it's worth it since some say one test suits people better than the other. I thought they were pretty similar in difficulty.
Should be easier to compare next year now that the SAT is going back to 2 parts. That third section didn't last long. I was the last year before it counted (8 years ago).

Yeah, standardized testing is odd. I took both the SAT and ACT but only submitted my ACT to Rice.
I did SAT prep and thinking it was all bull**** and got a 2110 on my first try. Didn't touch a book for another 5 months and took the SAT again and scored in the 1900s... Whoops. That experience would seem to suggest that prep work matters.
The Fall of my senior year, I took the ACT on a whim with no prior prep and scored a 33.
You just never know. Once you get above a certain point, I don't think standardized testing has much predictive value. I know people at Rice who scored lower than me with much better marks, and one person who scored a 2390 whose GPA is stuck in the mid-2's.

Yes, I believe so. Years ago when I lived there the kids were taking ACT, and hardly any student took the SAT.
UNT SAT scores are more aligned with their ACT scores because Texas kids take the SAT. SAT scores 1500-1850 would be comparable to Tech's 21-27 ACT score

True. SAT and ACT don't really matter once you get to college. It was generally accurate at distinguishing the top of my HS from the middle tier though. I knew kids at Rice (my freshman roommate as an example) who got in with scores that greatly lower the average Rice reports for the sake of having a better breadth of student across the freshman class. Still managed a solid GPA in mechanical engineering and now works at Shell. I'm positive that any of the top 20 schools could have a class with near perfect SAT scores if they wanted to.
My mom wanted me to retake the SAT and ACT with a 1580 and 35 because she thought I should have perfect scores. I was glad to be out of state for college...

Georgia is SAT centric, most kids only took the ACT if they performed poorly on the SAT and/or based on the schools they were applying to, or at least that was my experience in the Atlanta suburbs ~15 years ago.
At least according to one infographic from 2010 statistics, Florida, Georgia, South Carolina, North Carolina and Virginia are all SAT states whereas Tennessee, Kentucky, Alabama, Arkansas, Mississippi and Louisiana are all ACT states.
And a 2013 NYT article showed 2012 as the first year the ACT was the more popular test nationally.

Surprised by these statistics! I would have thought SMU's acceptance rate would be in the 30s and was also surprised by A&M and Houston. I would have thought that both would be in the high 80s. Also, I would have thought that WVU would be 100%. Finally, I'd like to meet the 5% that fail to get into K-State. How academically horrible do you have to be to fail to get into K-State?

I do want to point out that the enrollment numbers reflect thousands of part-timers and thousands of "working professionals." FIU is actually a very competitive school to get into as a true freshman. Most come in as transfers, 2-year college grads starting as juniors, "working professionals" seeking additional degrees (think: teachers seeking masters and Executive MBAs), and continuing ed students.

It's pretty ****** up to pride yourself on exclusivity. Damn I hate academia. Bunch of dorks. Bottom line is the cash flow when you get out of you even went to school. Most of it nowadays is a scam.

Why? The goal of the top academic institutions isn't to educate the masses. Do you hate Ferrari too because they only make 1000 or so cars each year? Probably not... Ferrari has a different purpose than Ford or Toyota. The argument that education is only about cash flow when you get out is also highly debatable but it's not worth getting into on this thread (but btw Rice also probably has one of the top ROIs in the country and is listed as a top value school every year).
You're right there are a lot of worthless degrees now. One step forward shutting down ITT today.
