Rice vs. A&M (Tuesday Baseball)
It's going to be quite the challenge.
On the mound...
Tyler Ivey (Fr RHP): 7 starts, 33.1 IP, 2-1, 2.43 ERA, 2.20 BAA, 13 BBs, 41 Ks
...this is his first non-weekend start.
If anyone's bothered to look, the Aggies offensive stats are off the charts...
.328/.407/.501, with 26 HRs, 78 doubles/triples, 42-54 stolen bases, and averaging 7.7 runs per game.
7 everyday players are hitting over .300, 4 players have 22+ RBIs, 7 players have double digit walk totals. The stolen base threats are: Moss (9-11 SBs), Choruby (9-10 SBs) and Birk (7-9 SBs).
We're going to need our own Sandy Koufax to show up this evening. Make it happen!
As feared, Warren is hurt and out of the lineup (who knows how long)...
Lewis
Chandler
Proctor
Gray
Myers
Teykl
Wunderlich
Kopycinski
Staab (DH)
Lefty-righty is all well and good, but Staab over DiCaprio or Dunlap at DH. Really?

My pet peeve. I've never seen stats on it (and I assume the clubs have them), but imo the lefty/righty factor is highly overrated at the college level, especially with choice of pitchers. I'd never pull an effective pitcher for the l/r advantage.

Charlie Warren reportedly out 2-3 weeks with a hand injury. Hate to lose anyone who can swing the bat. Here's hoping for a quicker than forecast return.

Ags score on a 1 out single. 1-0. Runners on the corner.

Might not be just GT. Amador taking a lot of time between pitches and looking back the runners.

Banks jacks one to the warning track, but caught by Chandler. 1st and 3rd, two outs.

This is a long T1.
Runners on the corners, now two outs. Still 1-0.

As usual, the aggies aren't as smart as they think they are.
The guy on third shouldn't be that far off the base until the throw to second passes the pitcher. Well played by Rice, but that was an aggie error.

Beautiful execution by the infield on that rundown too. The throw back from Kopy to Amador caught the runner breaking the wrong direction.

JP Heath says 3-4 weeks, but that's about the same really.

Shallow fly-out with a man on second.
K looking with a man still on second.
Fly-out to center. 3 at-bats without advancing the runner on second. Bad.

I'll say it again: Lewis is an excellent second baseman.
Grounder, grounder, K. Going to B2, still 1-0.

Same thing as B1: Lead-off man gets on, takes second on a wild pitch (or passed ball).
Myers on second, no outs.

We've got a theme going tonight. Rice leadoff batter gets on then grabs an extra base on a passed ball. Let's bring Myers home this time.

Good sacrifice to right field to allow Myers to advance to third.

Kopy up with two outs and Myers on third.
Myers scores on what looks to be a WP. 1-1.
Good things happen when runners get advanced.
