It seems that the NBA Coaches careers are getting shorter and shorter so those fired (sometimes from multiple NBA teams), they end up in college as the pay is pretty darn good now in college. (Vs say as a NBA Assistant if HC jobs don't open up).

It allows them to extend their careers. They can tell recruits they used to coach in the NBA, etc..

In both offseasons this year, I think Tulane made the best hires they could have possibly made in both football and basketball.

Props.

This may get a laugh, but had Pastner been let go I was going to suggest giving Hollins a call to see if he would be interested.

Obviously the NBA's competitive as hell, and there's too much coaching talent lying around for schools not to be interested. For an older coach who still has some energy certain programs could provide a genuine opportunity, and for a program who is willing to pay and provide certain basic competitive necessities they can get a proven winner. I think it's a smart move.

Think any high school kid knows anything about his ability to coach? He may end up great for Tulane but I don't think it's a slam dunk. His name means a lot to us but only time will tell what it means to the now 16 year olds.[/i]

Great hire, this Dude can coach and the NBA tie won't hurt. Johnny Dawkins is huge hire too.Meanwhile we will play a cupcake ooc schedule and still be under 500. On the bright side we're a football school again

Aren't you the "word on the street" guy?

Your posts are funny! Do you have any words from the street that may break our way? And I wish the word and street you got your info on Josh being gone was right.

The guy has never coached a college game and has not been a NBA coach in 6 years. It may pan out well but to say, this early, that this is a home run hire is silly. Too premature.

Well, we can keep ECU and USF company at the bottom next year.
Bet the new coaches will have good assistants that they will actually listen to, unlike ours who sit stonefaced on the sidelines

Well . . . . .

Larry Brown, Mick Cronin, Kevin Ollie, Fran Dunphy, Kelvin Sampson, Frank Haith, Mike Dunleavy, and Johnny Dawkins. AND THEN THERE IS JOSH.

Which one doesn't belong?

Lionel Hollins would be a horrible D1 coach.

at this point, every coach on the list is on the short list. a JP equivalent with a small buy out would be a vast improvement. nothing to lose, doe. notta, zilch, zero..

I have no illusions about it.
