So here's the deal. I'd like to 'find mybasketball self' with the Grizz--been to some games this year. Even got catapulted a Memph15 shirt from the mascot.

But the overall excitement seems to fall below where Tigers bb used to be and what I want to see happening again.

I've always found the Grizz games more engaging at the Forum. A much younger and boisterous crowd might be the reason.

At Tiger games, I'm almost always told to sit my @$$ down :(

JP does far more damage to the Tigers than the Grizz ever have.

RE: Tigers thread on Grizzlies message board
The problem with the NBA is the regular season. The players are clearly pacing themselves and effort is not nearly what it is at a college BB game.

I really only watch NBA basketball if three conditions are met:

1. It has to be playoff basketball. Players actually care about defense and given the scheduling, the players are not pacing themselves.

2. No Kobe's, Lebron's or Dwayne Wade other 'protected' NBA superstar who gets the kid glove treatment from the refs. Single worst thing about the NBA.

3. The announcers do not include Bill Walton, Mark Jackson or Jeff Van Gundy. Those guys troll the airwaves.

So, yes, I will watch a Grizz playoff game for certain. Watch ALL Tiger games that I can.

IMO, NBA basketball is far superior even during the regular season when every player may not be going all out. The talent difference is too vast that even great efforts in college basketball games usually don't make up for it. There may be 10 great college basketball games in a season whereas in the NBA you can have that many every month.

How do they harm the Tigers? It's easy to make blanket statements.

Let's not sidetrack the young man by dragging him into discussion here. He notified several of us in January he's developing a new joke post he hopes to roll out by the end of 2016. This should replace the only one he knows that we've all repeatedly seen the last few years.

RE: Tigers thread on Grizzlies message board
It's true they do compete for the memphis area sports $. However, i believe there is enough interest for both teams to be successful especially if the teams can stay halfway successful.

Btw, that grizz board is awesome. I highly recommend it for grizz news and talk. Fyi, if you sign up as a new user, it might take a month or so before they activate your account for posting. Keep in mind there are a lot of nba fans that don't give a rat's azz about college basketball, so that would explain why some know so little about the tiger's situation.

I used to go see both teams a lot and now i just go to grizz games as much as possible. Every game i go to has a good size crowd that is very vocal. They are on the downhill and i still enjoy every game a lot. It's easier to feel connected with the grizz who have been pretty good in recent years and they have some players that have been around for a while. Plus they have a decent coach and a team identity. There are no real cupcakes in the nba. And approximately half of your playoff games will be home games which is better than the college playoff that includes a lot of travel for tiger fans no matter what seed you are.

The man without integrity will feed you his lies on why tiger fans won't go downtown to see the tigers, but the real reason is they don't believe in the excuse maker and failure coach named josh pastner.

I'd rather watch paint dry than watch the NBA.. I love College BB but the one and done rule has really hurt it bigtime and also the tranfer rule.. But over the past few years I haven't even watched much college ball because the Tigers have stunk so bad.. My parents have pretty much changed over to the Grizzlies from being big Tiger fans because they are sick of watching Pastner..

NBA players, as a whole, are arguably the best athletes in the world. Some of the things they do are absolutely amazing. If you are a basketball fan, I don't understand how the NBA can be boring to you. Any game that you watch Curry, Durant, Wall, James, or any number of other players you will see something remarkable. Watch the Spurs, Hawks, or Warriors play team defense.

Watching NASCAR is something completely different. I'll never understand how watching cars drive around in a circle all day can be considered a sport or even mildly entertaining.

Same here. I wouldn't watch them if I lived across the street - I pretty much hate every aspect of it. That said, I am not against the Grizzlies and understand that in some ways they are good for Memphis (though not nearly as important as the university). For the most part, I simply don't think about them (same as NASCAR).

In "some ways" good for the city? Please, list one reason how they're "bad" for the city of Memphis. One legitimate reason, I'd like to hear it.

The Grizz have an estimated annual economic impact of $250 million. Graceland is estimated to be near $150 million. Think about that for a second.

The "I'd rather watch paint dry than the nba" guys are the worst.

College basketball has regressed so much in the past five years it's pretty much unwatchable. The fact you would rather watch that hot garbage over the NBA now shows how little you know about the game.

I Just like the tourney and when my Tigers don't suck. Wake me up when football starts or we get a new coach.

Give the guy some credit. The amount of cognitive dissonance he had to go through just to let himself admit that there might be some ways that the Grizzlies are good for the city would incapacitate a normal human being.

Yup. If someone remotely knows the game of basketball and enjoys watching the sport then it's asinine to say college basketball is where it's at. Frankly I wonder if we didn't have a team to follow in our Tigers how many would actually watch college basketball outside of March Madness.
