MyBB Spring Homecoming 2/13 FREE food and tickets *Game changed from 1/23 due to TV*
*UPDATED*
Registration thru the NIU Alumni Association event website.
http://niu.imodules.com/s/1579/Alumni/in...nt_id=1050

The Mid-American Conference announced today that the NIU men's basketball game versus Toledo has been chosen to air nationally on CBS Sports Network. Since the men's basketball team will now play on Friday to air nationally, we have moved the Spring Homecoming event to Saturday, Feb. 13.

Spring Homecoming will still begin at noon with a complimentary lunch, followed by a free doubleheader of men's and women's basketball:

Complimentary lunch + free game ticket - noon
NIU women's basketball vs. Central Michigan - 1 p.m.
Men's basketball vs. Akron - 3:30 p.m.

If you have any questions, please contact Carolyn at cstraub@niu.edu; 815-753-5088. We look forward to seeing you on Feb. 13!

Noon to 2:30 p.m. - Buffet with cash bar
1:00 p.m. - Women's basketball vs. Ohio
3:30 p.m. - Men's basketball vs. Toledo

This event is free to those who RSVP by JAN. 20; $10 at the door.

It would be nice if this went from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. so as not to interfere with fans attending the women's game.

Yep. That's kind of the point of a doubleheader, no?

Yeah that's poor planning. You would think they could have tweaked it a bit so more people show up to the women's game.

For example...
Womens Game
Buffet/Cash Bar (must have wristband given out at women's game to enter)
Mens Game

It doesn't interfere with fans attending the women's game. Its in a completely different area. If you want to go without missing any of the WBB game then go form 12-1 then again at halftime.

+1. Making people only allowed to get a wristband from being at the women's game would drastically reduce the amount of people getting wristbands

It's a pretty simple fix: Have the buffet from 11:00 am or 11:30 am to 1:00 pm.

What kind of message does this give to the women's team when you are trying to get people to the Convo to watch the games and then the buffet goes through 75% of the women's game?

I guarantee you that if the men's game were first, the buffet would end at 1:00 pm.

You really think that people who are signing up for this event really want to sit thru 2 basketball games?

Yes. There are fans who do. I see them there all the time. That's what Athletics should want to encourage, right? Otherwise, why schedule 2 games in one day? What do you have against basketball?

I think they're trying to get butts in the door, tbh. I know a lot of people going to this solely because it's there, not because there's two ball games that day.

I went last year. If you want to see both games, eat between Noon and 1 PM. It's easy and does not take long. Same thing if you just want to see the women's game. If you just want to see the men, eat between 2 - 2:30. It ran a bit later last year. Plenty of food. You'll have to watch the last third of the first game but so what.
This whole thing was a really nice event last year.
Why do people have to try and find fault with things on this board?

I am not talking about the NIU basketball season ticket holders. That is not who this event is trying to bring out to the convo. I am talking about the hundreds of other people who are only going to be coming to the games on the 23rd because its free.

I have zero interest in basketball as a sport. I don't watch any NBA or other NCAA games. From the 99/00 to 04/05 seasons I went to 1 game and not it wasnt because of the move to the Convo, I just had no interest in going.

The ONLY reason I pay attention to the team now is because its "NIU" and I know that a good basketball team would be good for the University and even the football team.

I have a feeling this is going to be pretty big attendance wise. I think we can get 3000

To put that in perspective the lower bowl has 2591 seats.

Any idea what the largest attendance has been each season at the Convo?

Basketball generally sucks, but if I'm going to watch it, I'd rather watch the men play. So I am glad I don't have to sit through two games if I go.

With 3 kids ages 5-7 going to 1 basketball game is enough of a hoop to jump through. I will be lucky to get to watch half of the mens game before they start begging to go home.

In all seriousness, have you considered a baby sitter? I also seem to recall you having issues during football games with your children not sitting still/wanting to leave early. I'm sure you view it as a family activity but wouldn't it be nice to go out every once in awhile with your wife or friends and not have to deal with that?

The money you saved on tickets/snacks for the kids could be used to hire a baby sitter for a couple hours.
