Because neutral site games for G5 CC games have are almost certain attendance fails unless you get lucky and have an instate team make it. The ACC championship neutral site game is a dud sometimes depending on the teams.
CUSA CC game that was at WKU only drew 13K, now imagine how bad it would have been if were out of state location for both teams.
As much as I'd like to agree with the Atlanta/GSU Stadium hosting idea, I think the top ranked/home field format is best in our championship game infancy. At least we know one team's fan base will show up for it. I certainly wouldn't mind it in the future but I don't believe the conference is there yet.
What I would like to see is a kick-off classic held there. Pit a top SBC vs a lower rung SEC or P5 school. Use that Hall of Fame down the street to our advantage. Borrow all that media and momentum in town and piggy back on the CFA Kick Off Game hype. Why let the Bama and FSU types get the attention every year? Bring in your Indiana, Illinois, Iowa St, MD type schools and face them off with App, Troy, or stAte. If the P5s won't come invite the AAC. We just need to make some noise for the conference, our brand of football, & GSU Stadium.
I think if y'all were to do an annual rotating neutral site game with another G5 conference it would be good for everyone. Get a sponsor to name it and try to get it on espn(maybe Thursday to open the season). App vs Marshall, GS vs WKU or ULL vs LaTech would be good to setup yearly. Just matchup different teams per year.

It's not just G5,it's just more obvious in G5. Ford Field looks empty for the MAC title game. In 2012 Stanford hosted the Pac-12 title game and announced attendance was 31,600 for a 50,400 seat stadium, the aerial shots revealed a practically empty upper level. Can't complain too much though, fans usually have only 5 or 6 days to rearrange their schedules to go to a conference championship game whether it is an already known neutral site or a "last minute" higher seed site.

The stadium is still surrounded by crap hole neighborhoods that will take a long time to clean up, so no thank you to playing the championship game there. A word of advice. If you go to a game there, be sure to lock evereything of value in the trunk.

Shoot that's anywhere in Atlanta really. We left a bag with an expensive camera in our car when we played Ga Tech last season and came back to a smashed window and stolen camera. You would have never even known there was a camera in the bag, they were just trying to take anything they could get their hands on.
Word of warning.

Yeah large city problems. It continually amazes me that people who LIVE intown will post on neighbor sites to that their car was broken into in their driveway and x number of items were stolen. Have to be aware of your location and surroundings and act accordingly.

It's te city. Not sure craphole is a apt description for Summehil where a reno will cost you about $450k. As for how long it will take to build up say Mechanicsville and Peoplestown...lol. Few areas in the country can say they will have a half billion dollars invested and several thousand people for daily foot traffic in such a short period. In five years this area will be unrecognizable. There are crews of 3 to 5 guys on every other block on literally every street in Summerhill and Peoplestown renovating houses. A good way to make some money would be to be a dumpster rental supplier right now.

Summerhill will likely become OK but literally just a short stroll in any direction and you are in the crap hole again. There are some new and complete reno huge homes going for 400+ but the median price is still around 200K and you can still get a home for 150K. I would imagine with development the rental market to students will grow significantly in that area which may or may not be a good thing for it turning around. Most subdivisions in Statesboro that was majority rental to students looked like exactly how you think it would. But who knows maybe it will be trendy and the skinny jean / man bun crowd will move in as well. Grant Park is nice but homes are constantly being broke into. I have talked with several folks who just got tired of their stuff being constantly stolen and moved away. Actual policing and competent leadership of the city would be nice to have one day to help things along.

Homes are constantly being broken into in Norcross and Forest Park and Marietta if Channel 2 is to be believed. LOL. The real crap hole is across the expressway (wesy) in Mechanicsville. But I think whats happening in Summerhill is going to rapidly spread. Within 5 days of the sale announcement every house that was boarded up Summerhill had a crew on it. Now Peoplestown (south of the stadium) is going through the same. It will be quicker than people think because the prices will be cheaper (for rent and buying) than Midtown, Poncey Highlands and Va Highlands while still being a few minutes away. I am also wondering how long before the three hotels around the stadium get bought out. Price wise I dont think you will find anything for $150k near the stadium. I did a quick search and there are 89 properties for sale in 30315. The cheapest I could find in Summerhill was this one. There are some others in the zip code that are cheaper but they are in South Atlanta and Federal Terrace neighhborhoods, not near the stadium. $240k for a 3/1 on a slab and they dont show any inside pics. Wow.

This is exciting stuff. Not only is GSU getting a stadium they are part of a revitalization effort that I think will make the community connect with the school more. By having a vibrant residential community it will give a nice casual audience that will hopefully turn into fans for the school.

Wow at that house.... I'm about to close on my first house. Thank God I live just north of the ridiculous rise in home prices here in Central Texas. And people wonder why "adults" my age can't afford homes.

I never said there were not bad areas outside of the perimeter crime stats are easy to look up and that area is bad real bad. Not as bad as it used to be I will give you that.
Semantics on "near" but within two miles of the stadium there as homes as cheap as 12K. Yes $12,900 785 Coleman Street FMLS#5735533. 66 Ormond for 67K. There are 59 listings in the two mile radius under 150K. GAMLS is not as good for ITP and metro. It is better for fringe metro counties like Henry.
As far as sales within the last year within two miles of the stadium there were 535 sales ranging from 900K to 9,500...only in ATL with a median of $322K.
I hope it does turn around as every other year we will have a game there and it would be nice to be able to hang out after a game instead of getting to your car as fast as possible and getting the heck out of there.

uh, anytime you're in a major cities downtown area you should lock your car and look where you're going...I guess some folks have never 'left the farm' so to speak.

Wow.
2 miles is pretty far in the city. 785 Coleman is in Adair Park and closer to Metropolitan Parkway than to the stadium. 66 Ormond by the way an offer accepted by the seller. I am betting that in 6 or 8 months whatever is there is going for $325k.

The stadium is still surrounded by crap hole neighborhoods that will take a long time to clean up, so no thank you to playing the championship game there. A word of advice. If you go to a game there, be sure to lock evereything of value in the trunk.
uh, anytime you're in a major cities downtown area you should lock your car and look where you're going...I guess some folks have never 'left the farm' so to speak.
Some folks should have more respect for other people and their stuff.

Some of the highlights of the story (behind a pay wall)
Quote:Nearly 1 million cars pass historic Turner Field on a business day in Atlanta. Pretty soon, all of that traffic will go right by Georgia State University’s new football stadium, providing the school with unprecedented exposure and branding as it looks to boost its athletic programs.
Quote:The transformation is part of a $100 million project that is being phased in over the next three to four years, but the former Turner Field, now known as Georgia State Stadium, will be football-ready by the Panthers’ season opener on Aug. 31. Not only will the venue provide Georgia State with a unique urban setting for its home games in the shadows of downtown Atlanta, the stadium is considered a vital component to raising the school’s athletic profile in a hypercompetitive pro and college market.
Quote:The renovation’s first phase, which is primarily the work on the stadium, will cost around $40 million. Subsequent phases include a new baseball stadium for $10 million, a parking deck that will serve the students and athletics for $20 million and another $10 million to create offices, football operations, weight room and other spaces for Olympic sports programs.
Those costs reach $80 million and the purchase price of the stadium runs the total bill close to $100 million. The school does not plan to use state funds or tuition dollars to pay for it. Fundraising and revenue from premium spaces are expected to cover the costs.
Quote:One of the primary benefits to repurposing the stadium is that it has premium spaces already built in from when the Braves were there.
The University Club is a 21,000-square-foot space that sits atop the north end zone and provides donors at the $500-a-year level and up an indoor-outdoor area to watch the game.
Georgia State also will have access to 45 suites around the stadium. Those will range from $10,000 a year for a 16-seat suite to $12,500 for 20 seats, and they’re about two-thirds sold for the upcoming season, the school said.
