RE: AAC Basketball Attendance thru 12/11/15
college basketball attendance has been dropping like a rock for the past 5 years nation wide - even the NCAA tournament rounds are soft tickets now. its a lot easier and cheaper to sit at home and watch your team on tv now that every game is available and to be honest - the product on the court is just not that compelling.

RE: AAC Basketball Attendance thru 12/11/15
College Basketball Attendance
2009: 5,375
2010: 5,245
2011: 5,233
2012: 5,192
2013: 5,129
2014: 5,014
Much of the small loss in attendance is do to these 2 factors:
1)Huge explosion in tv coverage, especially mid major programs, as even teams like UCF, most of their games are now aired compared to very few in the past.
2)Increase in new Div I programs over last 10 years, most that struggle to draw any size crowds that hurts the games overall average.
Plus, for most schools that have built new arenas in recent years, many have smaller capacities but offer much higher revenue thru premium seating, advertising, etc...

AAC Basketball Attendance thru 12/11/15

National Rank
2010 - # 8 Memphis 16,498
2011 - # 8 Memphis 16,768
2012 - #11 Memphis 16,234
2013 - #11 Memphis 16,336
2014 - #10 Memphis 16,121
This will be the first season under Pastner that we won't rank in the top 15 in attendance. Tiger fans have been extremely patient, but are finally choosing other venues for their entertainment dollar.
And we haven't played anyone at home.

Not sure how other team's non-conf game attendance compares to their first 5-7 non-conf games last year but at least for UCF, early non-conf attendance is up 18% for the first 5 games this year compared to the first 5 games last year so at least its trending upward.

I agree, the meat and potatoes of the schedule should give us a noticable bump over the next several months. I'd be shocked if we don't finish at least with a 14k average, which should be good enough for another top 25 national finish.

Almost every team sees an uptick in attendance once conf play starts...as those games are usually much more meaningful and/or vs better teams vs most games played during non-conf play.

Not sure about 14K.
I sure don't sense the normal fire among the fans this season, hopefully I'm wrong.

AAC Basketball Attendance thru 12/11/15
I wish attendance threads would include total number of seats and percentage filled in the first post. ECU would never be higher than 3rd just because we can't seat more than 8000

Do you think football has taken the focus of the Tigers basketball program... or Pastner has lost some of his luster... or maybe just a cyclical thing?

its all a pastner thing - he totally lost the vast majority of night in night out fans willing to trek downtown for a weeknight cupcake game. I left 99% of last season's games mad and I'm not putting myself through that again - my family has had continuous season tickets since the coliseum opened in 1964. I dropped them this season and if I get in the mood I may cherry pick a game but I'm not investing in the josh pastner experience any more. its enough.

Yikes, strong sentiment but can't say that I disagree.
Season tickets are much too expensive for what we've been watching over the last several years.
