There is a difference in the number of times a qb runs and how many times a qb gets hit. QBs rarely get hit when running the ball if done right. That said, DW should run every time it is the best option, and outside of the occasional read option keeper, get down before he gets hit unless the game is on the line.

You might be right, but given our current qb situation, it sure feels like playing with fire.

There are a lot of teams with qbs that are every bit as important as DW that have their qb run the ball a ton. Its part of the game these days and you just have to do it and minimize the risk. He was a wide receiver a week ago and I guarantee nobody was thinking he would get hurt from getting too many balls thrown too him. If this thought process that qbs running the ball leads to inevitable injury had any validity to it there would be college qbs all over the country, and from every top contender, being injured every week. It may have been a wise precaution when TH was our qb and even the most minimal risk outweighed the reward, but in our offense (barring a talent like TH) the qb has to run some.
