RE: Recent Interview With AAC Commissioner Aresco
If the American can stay together the league probably earns somewhere between $5 million and $10 million for its next TV deal. Adding Navy to the league was a huge addition, better than some of the recent additions to power five league. You could make the argument that Navy football is a better team and stronger brand at this point than the football programs at Colorado, Rutgers, Pitt, and Syracuse.
The other key is scheduling. If the American continues to land home games against "name" teams that helps add value to the TV deal. Right now I believe Notre Dame, UCLA, Ole Miss, Texas, Georgia Tech, BYU Wisconsin, Illinois, Florida State, Boise State, NC State, UNC, Virginia Tech, WVU, South Carolina, Louisville, Arizona, Texas Tech, Indiana, Nebraska, Missouri, Air Force, TCU, Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, and Stanford all have to travel to a school in the American over what would be the life of the current TV deal and the following one. Not only will the TV partner by purchasing games that include the 12 teams in the American they will continue to land top level brands from other conferences. This is one area the American is vastly different than the other leagues outside the power five.
