Everybody calm the hell down
Saturday was easily one of the top 5 most frustrating NIU game I've ever watched, but the overreaction on here is laughable. NIU lost by 3 to Boston College and by 7 to Ohio State. If somehow you've came to the conclusion they suck because of that, you're an idiot.

The offensive line has some serious issues that need to get worked out (particularly on the right side), but NIU won't play a defense half as good as either Ohio State or Boston College the rest of the year.

My bet is 6 weeks from now we'll look back and asked what the hell happened in the Boston College game?

If the defense continues to play like this, NIU will win a ton of games this year. We saw what the offense was able to do against UNLV and Murray State. My bet is, the offense will be closer to those games than the last two the rest of the year.

It sucks because NIU is 4-0 right now and ranked in the top 20 if they got any offense the last two weeks. The rest of the season, though? They'll be fine.

Agree, and hopefully brighter days are on the way. This board is depressing, big time. BC was a tough one to swallow, so much talent on O and no delivery. I think they start to turn it around, and also I predict with my brain not my heart, I see NIU beating Toledo.

Top 5 most frustrating? I'm too lazy to rank them but for me it might be #1 in the last 10 years. (Iowa at Soldier Field in the team picture.)

Frustrating because:

1) We don't get these opportunities to play these "name" OOC's that often.

2) That game was there for the taking and we wet the bed.

Yes, and because I'm not used to watching NIU struggle on offense like that. I can't remember the last time I saw an NIU offensive line play this bad.

I think the key is what they weren't able to do in the 1st halves of those games, and for all 4Q against Ohio State and Boston College. The positive is NIU's D that seemed better against the bigger teams vs the lesser teams stepping up. Going back to MAC play, they're going to need that O going & flowing for all 4Q when playing CMU, WMU, Toledo, and Ohio. I think that's the question mark. BUT, on Saturday, that will be shown. CMU has a good D, and the best O they'll have faced. So if NIU's O can flow against them decently well, that'll be a great sign for NIU.

Everybody sure did go off the deep end. Horrible to see all the snapping at & attacking of fellow fans. Makes me think of a pack of wild dogs barking, biting & fighting among itself. Sad. very sad.

Safe to say the 2013 MACC against BGSU is #1 on that top 5.

Yeah...except it was such a blowout...had a much different sucky feel to it.

Hey the BGSU just scored again......

The 2010 MACC. As mentioned in another thread, that 2010 team was blowing everyone right out of the water. And then . . . disaster in Detroit.

Uh-uh. 2010 MACC easily trumps 2013 MACC.

Iowa in 2012 is up there, but #1 for me is 2011 vs Kansas. It was after that loss that I finally took a step back and stopped getting so emotionally invested in games.

I disagree, we were a shoe in to the BCS in '13. Imagine what the Orange Bowl did for us and do it again. We would be a totally different team if we went to the Fiesta Bowl.

I had zero frustration during the 2013 MACC. They just got it handed to them.

Plus I was drunk.

I think people have forgotten what it felt like to be an NIU fan prior to 2011 or the Orange Bowl year. Or they weren't fans until then.

A win in the 2010 MACC would've been the first conference title in 27 years. Everybody wanted that game as badly as any other game in team history. Nobody cared about what came afterward, the MACC was the grand prize.

BG outplayed NIU in 2013, simple as that.

Miami didn't outplay NIU in 2010 as much as NIU shot themselves in the foot and dropped the ball (literally).

I won't even bring up what happened in NIU other's MACC loss...

Now that I've thought about it & some examples from others:

Top 5 "Frustrating" Losses over last 10 Years:

#1) 2010 MACC
#2) 2005 MACC
#3) 2013 MACC (Frustrating Blowout)
#4) 2015 at BC
#5) 2012 Iowa at Soldier Field

Honorable Mention: 2011 at Kansas

If CMU is off-key and is turnover prone this weekend -- then no, CMU's O isn't better than what NIU faced against OSU. With OSU's turnovers and being off-point, that game they weren't better than what CMU's demonstrated. Hey, you never know -- CMU could have a sub-par O game this weekend, but one shouldn't expect that (hope for best, prepare for worst). In the end though, expect the CMU O that's been on all cylinders to be there at kick-off and not turnover prone -- and being about the toughest challenge and possibly tougher challenge than the D's faced so far.

So Ohio State was off-key and turnover prone that game, it had nothing to do with NIU, particularly Lurry who looks like he is becoming a star? Or the fact NIU contained Elliot and forced an inexperienced QB into passing situations?

BC would not make my list of 5 most frustrating NIU losses. That would look as follows:

1) 2013 MACC vs BGSU
2) 2013 Poinsettia Bowl
3) 2010 MACC vs Miami, OH
4) 2005 MACC vs Akron
5) Pick one.
2004 vs Toledo
2003 vs Toledo
2002 vs Toledo
