RE: Everybody calm the hell down
Thanks for being the voice of reason, 7. I was beginning to think I'd entered some sort of Bizarro World where people had forgotten we'd lost to 2 of the top 5 defenses in the country by a total of 10 points. Like you say, there are things to work on, but I think we're in good shape.

(09-28-2015 11:53 AM)7 Wrote:  Saturday was easily one of the top 5 most frustrating NIU game I've ever watched, but the overreaction on here is laughable. NIU lost by 3 to Boston College and by 7 to Ohio State. If somehow you've came to the conclusion they suck because of that, you're an idiot.

The offensive line has some serious issues that need to get worked out (particularly on the right side), but NIU won't play a defense half as good as either Ohio State or Boston College the rest of the year.

My bet is 6 weeks from now we'll look back and asked what the hell happened in the Boston College game?

If the defense continues to play like this, NIU will win a ton of games this year. We saw what the offense was able to do against UNLV and Murray State. My bet is, the offense will be closer to those games than the last two the rest of the year.

It sucks because NIU is 4-0 right now and ranked in the top 20 if they got any offense the last two weeks. The rest of the season, though? They'll be fine.

They rushed for their seasonal rushing average of around 230 yards per game (and two of their games were against very weak FCS teams). And you can't really judge our pass D because BC obviously has a completely inept passing game with those two back-ups in. So to me, the jury is still out on our D.

But, if I had to bet, the Monday morning QB's on here will have more to say about our D going forward than they will about our offense.

For MAC games yes, but the bowl game no.

It was a great effort by the defense Saturday, AGAIN, no doubt, but you cannot count on week in and week out of having only one side of the ball do all the work for you. I think it finally results in not just a loss this week, but a highly embarrassing one to CMU

Can you say it a couple more times since we didn't get your theme in every other thread?

Ok,

An offense needs to be run to win games

The funny thing is...if we would have pulled off that last drive (or not missed a gimme figgy) and beat BC...there would be threads upon threads about us "guaranteed the access bowl" and "here comes the Big 12" because we beat BC and stayed close with OSU.

Things change so quickly.

That's exactly why people are so upset, there was so much on the line but you could not have determined that from watching

And either way, those feelings are exaggerations. It's a long season, take a deep breath. It will be ok. There's a long ways to go in the season.

This is why I like basketball much, much better than football. Every game in football seems like life and death, where one loss can do you in - especially in conference play (as has been the case so often in the MAC). As there are more games in BB, each game is not do or die - until you get to conference play at the end (and we should be so lucky to be in that position). For me, BB is my number 1 sport. I just can't take the heart attacks every darn football game.

I was still feeling pretty darn bad about the BC loss...until I got on here and read about the "coach's not wanting to win" and "CMU favored by 2 TD's" stuff. Now I can't stop laughing. I actually feel much better.

To me that BC game wasn't even heartbreak. It was more anger than heartbreak.

Wait.....What??? We have a basketball team? Mens?

Between my job, 3 daughters in college at the same time, and NIU football, my heart is doomed. Living on borrowed time.

That's a good way to deal with it. I let it frustrate me. Now I am just going to laugh too. Thanks.

At least we aren't Tennessee who has a coach that doesn't go for 2 with a 12 point lead

Do you realize how dumb this is? I get being upset about the loss because so much was on the line. Trust me, nobody was more mad about it than me. I can't tell you the last time I took a two day break from the board haha. But to say they could have a shot at an access bowl and then say they should be 3 TD dogs to CMU? It makes no sense.

The loss sucked because it's a game they could have easily won but didn't. The rest of the year, though? They'll be fine.

Wait, you do realize NIU would have been at the top or near the top of the Access list with a win here right? Now obviously it is completely gone.

Of course, which is why it's fine to be upset. But how can you say they were 35 yards away from being in the drivers seat for an access bowl after you said they should be 3 TD dogs to CMU? If you seriously think CMU is 3 TDs better than them, they never had a shot at an access bowl.

If CMU is 3 TDs better than NIU then NIU has no business being in the access bowl.
