Most Midtowners avoid G-town partly because of their psycho cops. I hear it from people all the time.
How is my boycott hurting G-town? I don't know because I don't go there.
T.C.A 55-8-154 (a) & (b) suggest otherwise.
And officers have discretion to issue citations, courtesy citations or verbal warnings. So no, a citation is NOT mandatory if you are found to be in violation of a traffic law.
With all due respect, you didn't read my post or didn't understand it. I was not impeding traffic. My reduced speed was 29 mph, in compliance with the construction signs that indicated a 30 mph speed limit.
The officer did not tell me I was impeding traffic. He had no legal reason to stop me, but I do realize an officer always has the discretion to stop someone. And I know officers have discretion to issue citations, courtesy citations and verbal warnings; he did none of that, because I was in total compliance with the law. And I also know an officer can decide not to issue any of those even if you are in violation of the law.
I complained to the Mayor and the Chief of Police because I was detained for 30 minutes during my work day for no legal reason, and time is money to me. The Mayor and Chief of Police both apologized profusely.
Germantown has a harassing speed trap along Poplar. It's well known to Memphians. I have never in 49 years of driving been ticketed in Memphis for any traffic violation.
But thanks for your traffic citations. I am well aware of both of those, having worked in Traffic Court here for 40 years and reporting hundreds of traffic accident trials in Circuit Court. GO TIGERS!
Other than construction, the speed limit on Poplar Ave. is 40mph from the river to collierville. How is that a speed trap? What year was this? B/c in 17 years associated with that particular PD I have seen exactly one officer who wrote a ticket or stop anyone for 1mph over and the judge publicly chastised said officer in court. As he should, b/c it's bull $hit. I have seen officers pull people over for going 10-15 and write the ticket for below that to help them out so their insurance wouldn't skyrocket.
But what do I know. I'm just a "psycho" Germantown cop.

He was working there in the late 70's. I knew him from high school. He was a catcher for the old Bill Speros American Legion teams back then and signed a contract with the Expos. I think he got hit by a baseball stealing second that ended his career. He came back and was working a GPD.

Not really. He who casts the first stone. The schools in this area have their own problems with the law, as do others around the country.

can the anti Germantown Cop posts be moved to a separate thread?
It is sad that one poster's prejudice can derail a thread so easily.

In the late 80's, I received a warning from Ricky McCoy in Germantown. Based upon what I had heard, it was the only warning ever given by the gpd.

About 18 months ago. And I wasn't speeding, wasn't impeding, wasn't ticketed, and to this day, I have no idea why I was stopped.
I've seen all sides of law enforcement in various forums, MPD, SCS, OCU, West Tennessee Drug Task Force, and am present every time management tries to fire one of them. I have a relative who is a Memphis officer. I see and hear stuff most citizens never see. Thank you for your service and for being one of the good ones.

Ok, it's time to get over it. You were pulled over, didn't get charged with anything and were sent on your way. Let it go.
