IMO, it's always better to target the younger, hungrier coaches that are working their way up.
Yes, those coaches will undoubtedly move on to better jobs if they win and programs come calling, but who cares? If their goal is to get one of the top jobs in college football, they're going to do everything they can to build a program and win at the highest levels to showcase themselves.

For every BK there are 3 Darrell Hazell's. If 9-3 and going 7-1 in conference is sub par so be it.

It's all about investigation the options out there and making the right hire. I'd say UC did a pretty solid job with Dantonio, Kelly and Jones.
As to the records, winning 9 games isn't that hard to do when you're in the American.

Thats the risk. I tend to believe Tubberville will keep UC at a 7 to 10 win level most years. Lets say UC splits their next four game, wins over Miami Ohio and Miami FL on their way to 8 win season. Would that signature win over the Hurricanes make up for some of the other failures.

I'd only do it of we could get Matt Campbell, not really any young MAC/C-USA/SunBelt coach I'd want other than him.

Good gravy, no! That would mean we lost 3 games in this conference. Horrid.

Ridiculous. It was a tragic accident. It had nothing to do with the "lengths one will go to win".
I've never been able to get past that young man's death. So preventable, unnecessary. Is football that important? At best it was thoughtless. So yeah, it is a reflection on Kelly.

We play 8 conference games, 4 OOC. USF and UConn, who were good in the Big East somehow have not been good in the AAC. It depends on who and where you are playing in the AAC. Please remember that Jones had a 4-8 season here, inheriting a 12-1 team. Jones never saw Rich Rod WVU, who was semi elite. Right now ECU, Houston, USF, Memphis, Temple D are every bit as talented as UC.

Jones also turned it around and under him we beat two P5 teams in two bowl games. Tubs hasn't come close to this.

Just 1 P5 team in a bowl. We beat Duke with his left behind assistants. Not disputing anything about Tubs, just a minor correction.

(09-13-2015 07:10 AM)Bearcats#1 Wrote: For the longest time I was happy with CTT as coach. He is well respected, gives UC some 'legitimacy' in the G5 cesspool because of his name. Having him as coach somehow elevated UC in my mind, "we may be G5 but we spend big money on a name coach so we are different" was my thinking. His name will help us recruit which is a big deal in the G5 I figured. And most of all, he is older and probably not going anywhere so we will get him for more than three years. A huge plus to me as I saw great coach after coach leaving UC after three year stints.
Well, I'm done with that thinking. I like CTT personally -he's a great guy and would be a fun guy to golf with. He runs a good program in terms of off field antics, and he is fun to watch address the press. But that's about it. Clearly he is coasting and he has also done a very poor job assembling a staff.
I would rather get the up and comer who had fire in his belly and who's motto is 'failure not an option' even if it means the guy leaves for a P5 job in three years. I remember Brian Kelly used to say, "We don't have time to wait, we have to win now". I always loved that term. He just didn't accept losing. Neither did Dantonio or Jones for that matter. Was it tiring hearing their names for every opening ever year, sure, but in the end those guys had teams that won, expected to win, and when they didn't win it was an exception. They also had teams that won big games and showed up with the 'lights came on'. WE don't have that now.
You can officially count me in the camp that wants a new coach.
and I'm aware that CTT didn't throw those four interceptions...that was on Kiel and the team. I'm more talking about the general attitude of the team, how we don't win big games, poor discipline, bad game plans, no energy on the sidelines from coaches, etc. The talent is there too. I would like to see what this team did last year and this year with Brian Kelly and staff as head coach. Esp. against lessor teams like we face. We would be mopping up.

My bad, my post was poorly worded, i meant 1 p5 with Butch Jones coaching the bowl. The other bowl was coached by his assistants after he left. 2 P5 wins, 1 from Butch.
