"The American" is what it is... You can't be disappointed if you have your expectations already set low.
CUSA would be a step-up at the moment.

RE: The 2015 College Football Game Thread
the funny part is all the loons on the main board who think the AAC is a power conference and/or think the AAC is the superior G5 aka a 'tweener'.
I've been saying it and will continue to say it: the AAC isn't any better than the rest of the G5 and we sure as heck aren't a power conference in any way, shape, or form.

I did not look at the lines before the game, but Connecticut's win was actually an upset...
That's right... Connecticut opened up the season at home as an underdog to an FCS team.

RE: The 2015 College Football Game Thread
The AAC isnt a good conference overall. No consistency amongst most of the programs over extended periods of time in recent history (which is all people care about). - Not /s.
That said, I think I'm gonna head over to the AAC board and pile on. Im sure none of them feel like sh!t as is, so I'll go over and fix that, maybe start a whole new thread reiterating just how sh!t everything about them is. I'm sure none of them are feeling bad enough about the situation as a whole. After three games its all pretty clear that none of them deserve reprieve after a pretty awful night. Nope, not at all. And luckily, we don't have a history of dropping bizarre games to terrible teams under this coaching staff, so there is no way that my actions could bring any sort of similar, outrageous, obnoxious, and unwanted repercussions within the coming months. I just love the feeling of making strangers on the internet feel like sh!t, totally gratifying. - Massive amounts of /s.

The UCF loss makes our home schedule look a little weaker.

TCU looked nothing like a number 2. I loved hearing the announcers commenting that B12 team cannot lose a game because of no game 13 and make the National Championship Playoff.
Remember FIU is in CUSA and is a big school of almost 55,000 and getting 2nd and 3rd tier FL players makes it pretty good.
Villanova has been a top FCS team for years. That said the BE was partly destroyed by the flirtation with trying to get Nova to move up into BE.
It is great for FB to be back!

Score of the Day
Florida International 15, UCF 14. So much for that UCF to Big 12 talk. At least interim AD George O'Leary won't put coach George O'Leary on the hot seat. There's no way to sugarcoat that losing to FIU was a bad loss for UCF and for the American Athletic Conference, which is trying to gain credibility, and a nice win for Conference USA. UCF shared the AAC championship in 2014 and won the Big East title in 2013. FIU went 4-8 in 2014, including a season-opening loss to Bethune-Cookman. But the Panthers' defense smothered UCF so much that O'Leary played for a 42-yard field goal try by freshman Matthew Wright, who had never tried a field goal in college. After UCF committed a false-start penalty, Wright's 47-yard kick was blocked by Darrian Dyson. FIU coach Ron Turner enjoyed a Gatorade shower and UCF suffered a loss that could hurt the AAC for a College Football Playoff access bowl come December.
---------------------------------------
A bit over reactionary that the Big 12 makes decisions based on one game and that loss puts a blow to any AAC team hoping to make the Access Bowl . Yes, it doesnt help our SOS but its one game , lets not scrap the entire AAC chances of going to that bowl yet .
I do agree on the George O'leary comments and question if your AD is your football coach can you be fully effective as both ?

Outside of Cincinnati, the three best teams in the league are in the West. I am interested to see if Temple or USF can step up and make a bowl game. UCF and ECU are both going to struggle to get to six wins this season. The UC-Temple game is a huge early season game. Same with the UC at Memphis.

Gotta love the media. One week a team is crowned as the best and another week the worst in CFB. Of course, they reserve the right to crown them in the following week. I feel dumber ever time I watch espn. fox or cbs or read a sports page/blog anymore.

That was still a horrible loss by UCF. O'Leary has been the head coach at UCF almost as long as FIU has had a football program.

They had 1st and 10 inside the 25 yard line and O'Leary got more conservative than Pat Robertson. 3 straight runs up the gut (where they lost yards) and a penalty later, and their poor kicker was behind the 8 ball. The job of a coach is to put the players in a position where they can succeed. He failed.

Certainly doesn't help any pie-in-the-sky chances we had of hosting College Gameday this season.

Louisville lost to FIU at PJCS in 2011. They improved as the season progressed, so can UCF.

You have to be really careful throwing the ball down there, if you have a legit shot at a FG you have to play for that. Did not watch the game so can't speak relative to momentum or 1-1 matchups in the passing game.

With a freshman kicker who has literally never kicked a ball in a college game, I would need to get closer. I certainly wouldn't run 3 straight up the middle. Just a total lack of imagination.

How was UCF's oline playing in pass protection? If you had man coverage, 4 WR set, I would take a shot in the back corner of the end zone. Running wide can give the kicker and poorer angle, and no way I am throwing over the middle.
