? Better not watch college football then. Buying players was a normal occurrence even before the COA. Top 100 hoops players are always paid. Top football recruits are also paid.

How is this "buying" players? lol
This is no more of an advantage than Marshall taking partial qualifiers. I know that excites you.

Since that is on paper, FIU better max out that COA or get hit with lawsuits. I'm a little surprised that is in writing because you never know what can happen. I didn't think FIU was rolling in money with some basic things still missing like press boxes/radio boxes. That was a running joke on the air in Orlando the week leading up to the game. That needs to be a priority to upgrade. Just my opinion.
I do think if fiu can meet that 6k, they could be in lead position in the c-USA for recruiting.

The vast difference in COA from school to school is out of kilter. Something will eventually have to be done.I am sure someone is working on revisions.Maybe not.JMO.

COA existed before 2015, have been used for financial aid for a long time. Because athletes are potentially benefiting from this calculation and some areas have a higher COA than others is not a reason to change financial aid formulas.
I would love for you to tell some computer science major in Birmingham that you believe his financial aid should be exactly the same dollar amount as a kid attending school in Bowling Green.

Your opinion is worthless. As is the opinion of Radio Disney. I don't think FIU admin cares less what you think. The FIU admin knows what its doing. Sports is a priority, but academics is a higher priority. They have made this clear for years and nobody cares to listen. But keep underestimating FIU at your own risk. Just saying. I personally agree with you about our press "tents" but the FIU admin doesn't care what some UCF grad or anyone else says. And you know what? Even with our cruddy facilities we got into CUSA before FAU with their fine facilities. Go figure. Whether you like it or not the FIU admin has a vision and if you are in the way then you might get rolled on. Personally, I like their vision but can see how you don't get it. However, watch out 'cuz FIU is no long term joke. Whether you see it or not.

Money talks. Period. Always has. Always will. FIU has an advantage here. Like it or not. Our record and facilities may suck but our COA is an advantage. Are you really going to hate us for this too? its funny how people are. Saying our facilities suck but then getting upset when we spend money on COA. I would bet recruits prefer $ over nice press facilities. Don't you?

Was academics a higher priority before you got into all those APR problems?
I love that fans of a school like FIU want to make comments about Marshall taking props. A little ironic really, we take kids who couldn't qualify and graduate them. You take kids that can qualify and can't get them graduated. How high of a priority are academics again?

Just a 50 year old institution, but i assumed APR was about more than graduation. What % of the total props do you graduate?

Last time I read about it, UABs was between $5000 and $6000 and was one of the highest in CUSA. I don't know what the official number that is being committed to now though now since football is coming back.

Tell coach Clark to be careful when talking about COA. If it is higher than some, could be accused of buying players

No criticism of FIU directly.Just saying there will eventually be a change.Nationwide too many of the "privileged" 5 are not happy with schools having an advantage while their COA is limited.Rules "they" made CAN be changed.JMO.

That's a fair comment, and I agree they will try to do whatever to mantain any and every competitive advantage over G5 teams.

This whole thing is a mess IMO...What ever happened to college athletes having the luxury of zero student loans in their lifetime?....Would gladly trade my wife's student loans for COA bull crap......So will this COA not be taxed?

Most likely it will be taxable income, the same as the portion of a scholarship that covers room and board. Currently only the tuition, books, etc. are nontaxable.

Taxable income only applies to those who are required to report. The standard deduction and personal exemption for single taxpayers for 2015 will be $10,300; so if you don't cross this threshold, there's no need to file.
Couple of clarifying notes, the COA must be applied to all scholarship athletes and you can't apply different rates for different sports. So I'm not sure how/why USM is throwing out such a wide range of values. Probably getting a bunch of questions after FIU's announcement and wants to appear competitive.

They can apply different rates for different sports. The full COA only applies to athletes in sports that receive full athletic scholarships. Equivalency sports, like baseball, where you have 11.7 scholarships spread out over 35 players will receive a percentage of the full COA.

They can't apply different "rates" per sport. Each baseball scholarship will still be worth an additional $6k in COA funds (6,000 x 11.7 = 70,200). Now of course, if an athlete doesn't receive a full scholarship, he/she will only get their pro-rata share of the $6k.
