RE: basketball rumor
107.7 is a good station for us. It has a pretty wide broadcast radius.

I know how some of you feel about 107.7 FM but it is a black radio station and Whitney was a gigantic star both internationally and in the black community. Of course the radio station was going to talk calls about Whitney to remember her career and grieve over her untimely loss of life.
My question is why is UAB Sports regulated to 107.7 in the first place?
I don't buy that at all. First, I don't see how any singer deserves that kind of treatment. No one calling in knew her, yet everyone was personalizing it. But I know that is how the public is. Every celebrity overdose somehow personally affects everyone. America worships it's celebrities, so it's a national tragedy when one overdoses.
Second, They have a contract, and I'm sure if it was a football game or another state team involved, they would have found another time to do their dog and pony show. If it had been the first time they had disrespected UAB, they would get a pass, but that was only one in a series of slights and screw ups, like cutting off the coaches show, going to commercial and not returning for a long period of time...they have gotten better. Maybe her
So you feel the same way about Gene Bartow? Everyone personalizing Gene Bartow didn't know who but gave respects. You're just mad they cut the basketball game.
Hey Elsa, let it go....

RE: basketball rumor
Whitney Houston definitely warranted that kind of reaction. I wasn't the biggest fan or anything, but it's easy to understand that her music resonated and that some of those songs inspired, helped people through a tough time, etc. The main problem was that there is a certain way to handle stuff, and the way they handled it doesn't sound that professional as described in the previous posts.
Getting back to basketball, have transfer restrictions always been as petty as they have recently? I get that you don't want to end up playing against the talent that you helped develop or recruit, but is it worth the bad press?

Oh I'm sure you don't buy it but regardless of how you felt about Whitney she was deeply care about and cherish in the black community. You're not black so I don't expect you to understand this. In the black community, Whitney meant more to us than UAB. For you to say 107.7 had this dog and pony show for the death of Whitney Houston is a slap in the face not only to people who loved her regardless of her flaws, but the African-American community.
You and Donald Trump seems to be cut from the same cloth.

RE: basketball rumor
As long as everyone is staying off topic, let me give my two cents on music artists. I don't understand why people make such a big deal over performers that don't play instruments or write their music. I'm not a Whitney Houston expert, but I don't think she wrote her music. Neither did Elvis and I don't get that fascination either. I don't see how people can be given credit for influencing you so much with their music if they didn't write any of it. Basically a group of managers and producers bring them a bunch of demo recordings of studio musicians singing songs and they pick and choose which ones to record. That's like me doing audible recordings reading books I didn't write and being given credit for touching lives with it.
Just my opinion.

Whitney did write some of her music. I don't get the fascination over fake big bobs but some of you go crazy over them. To each to his or her own.

Bob Stone is real. I don't get why some people keep claiming he's a big fake Bob.

My question is why is UAB Sports regulated to 107.7 in the first place?
UAB needed an FM station to carry its sports broadcasts beyond the city limits, particularly during the early darkness days of winter. All Alabama AM stations must "power down" at nightfall (none are "clear channel" AM stations like the ones in Nashville and NOLA) and Bama and Auburn had already signed up the top local FM stations. The "pickings" for powerful leftover local FM stations were slim.
Why do Alabama AM radio stations have to "power down" at nightfall? That never made sense to me.

A 50,000 watt station sound might make it to Montgomery during daytime But at night without powering down you could be heard in Chicago and would conflict with a lot of stations on the way

Yeah we should hijack NPR! WBHM is marginally funded by UAB, like 10% of its operating budget.
