RE: Most loved C-USA team by non-C-USA fans
I went with Rice for fans and academics. UAB a close second for mutual UAT hate reasons.
Charlotte would have been up there too, but I find too many of their fans let their hate of UNC-CH and Duke get in the way of their view of the rest of the ACC.

After three votes I declare the poll closed and Rice the winner.

I voted USM, too much history and success in CUSA to be where they are now. Also, one of our oldest rivals before we even joined CUSA.

I chose UAB because when they played Kent in basketball they gave us some measure of respect which was a nice change of pace compared to most CUSA fans on this site at the time.

That CUSA hate one is already done... Marshall is the winner. Move on to the MAC versions now

Do me a favor, Swag... IF you do a poll for the Sunbelt, please place a "None of the Above" option in there because when it gets down to some of these conferences, I don't "love" any of these teams. Or "hate" them for that matter.
Southern Miss is about the only team in CUSA that I care about. The rest are "Meh!" at best.

I like all the CUSA teams except UTEP. All the teams have good stories behind them, and are working their way up. I chose Old Dominion since they are in Virginia, and I have good co-workers that are alums.
UTEP is clearly the exception. All those years in the WAC, and how often did a WAC team go to the SunBowl? Once, and it was UTEP. They brought down the level of WAC football despite being in Texas. When we did the WAC-16 we should have instead changed to the SWC and left UTEP behind. The Miners have had chance after chance and have blown it. How can you have a team that bad for that long in Texas of all places? Dumb luck should have at least resulted in something productive - even if it was a Sunbowl arrangement.

Not really Duke, mainly UNC-CH. It's hard to like a team that wants to play you in your hometown, be the home team, and get the revenue. That, plus their leaders told us to forget about a football team, play intramural, and go to Chapel Hill or Raleigh if we wanted to watch college football. Oh yeah, there's the whole cheating for nearly 2 decades thing as well. Sometimes the hate can be irrational, but many Niner fans have decided there are bigger fish to fry than worry about Chapel Hill.

I voted Southern Miss.. I've always liked them for one reason or another.
Plus, they offered me a full ride as a high school kid.

I put LaTech.
They've always been a school touted on the verge of breaking out nationally in FB.
There is a sense with their brand that they could be much more athletically than what they've been.
A lot of the schools in CUSA by name alone do not sound like they belong at the top level of football. Old Dominion, Western Kentucky, Charlotte, UAB, UTSA its all easy to forget they play football. Its weird to see them suit up in helmets and pads.

No love for UTSA? I swear if I have to vote for my own school to avoid a shutout I'm going to be pissed.

Sound like we don't belong? Coming from a fan from the MAC, that's laughable. Ohio and Ball State are the only teams in the MAC that aren't a directional or named for a city. And if those schools you listed sound like they don't belong, what does that say for Miami, UCLA or East Carolina? As for Old Dominion, we are named for our great state. Not sure how that makes us sound like we don't belong.

Your first mistake was that you responded to a Kitton post.
Fwiw, Miami (and UMass if you count them through this year) isn't named after a city, it refers to the Indian tribe and the nearby valley region of the same name. And while Buffalo is named after the city, they're technically a SUNY flagship.
While names are important for branding, people place too much weight on them. People don't think of USC as small time, but when they think of flagships like Vermont or South Dakota they do. As long as you don't have a name like Southeastern North Carolina State Tech College for the Blind, it won't hold you back too much in the short run.
