no, if GT had missed an Access Bowl, they would have been in the ACC bowls. The Citrus Bowl deal is only when the Big Ten goes to the Orange. Not when SEC goes to the Orange Bowl.

If the discrepancy in conference payouts becomes too large, FSU will make a move.

It's as simple as that. FSU is too strong of an athletic department and tv property to let it whither in the ACC. Be it the Big 12, Big Ten or SEC, somebody would make an overture at FSU. And FSU would accept it.

Plain and simple. And literally any conference to add FSU would immediately become better and more profitable. The ACC would either disintegrate or become a football-playing version of the "new" Big East.

the problem with your equation is FSU got 6 million already last year extra for being in the playoffs.

According to the Bowl website, the difference in pay for a conference is the exact same for a team qualifying for the playoffs ($6 million) as it is making an access bowl ($6 million). There is no extra pay for making the championship game. So as long as there are two ACC teams in the Contract/Access bowls, the payout is the same.

no it's not..

It's 4 million for access bowl
it's 6 million for playoff bowl

there is no extra pay I agree for making the title game.

Also- if the SEC gets team in playoff and an access bowl team
40 million sugar plus 12 million=52 million
ACC gets team in playoff and an access bowl team
6 million plus 6 million=12 million
the gap is still 40 million.

I believe the ACC has a good chance of getting two teams into the final top 10 anyway - and possibly another playoff team. Obviously I don't know that for a fact, but then neither does anyone know they won't.
K-State is going to need a miracle to avoid joining Kansas in the Big XII cellar this season. If GT is depending on K-State to give them a respectable win to promote for the playoff committee, they're in deep trouble.
Bit, this about using last year's results for a scenario of what might have happened had the Orange and the Cotton been the CFP Bowls.

GT and K-State are not playing each other this year that I am aware of.
I was wondering. It had me thoroughly confused there for a while. 03-banghead

I did not especially think that made much sense, but I recalled reading it that way. Must have been a late night or something. Then again it doesn't make much sense to pay less to teams who make the playoffs than their contract bowl, but that is not a line item transaction.
