If he's actually willing to face the public, I have to think it's a good chance it will be in favor of reinstating it, which given all of the trouble Watts has gone through would surprise me. I would think if the decision were to keep it shuttered that Watts would have chickened out and done a simple press release.

I agree. Although another (lesser) possibility is that he's decided against reviving football but has already lined up a new conference home and is holding the presser to announce the move. For example if UAB has landed an MVC invitation he'd want to talk about that and play up the vision of becoming a top-ten basketball school.

How do they come back from a self imposed death penalty? This won't be easy.

I agree. Its going to be hard to be anything but the worst program in CUSA unless they make a major commitment like a stadium. It was probably best at this point to just let it go.
How do you recruit against-well they dropped football just a few years ago?

So, other than the banner 6-6 season from last year, they'll be the status quo as before. Probably, won't make a difference regardless.

I'm sure there are some strings or conditions that have to be met to keep it going.

Maybe not all of the players found another college yet?

If there's any doubt:
UAB to bring back football
Only 6 months after president Ray Watts announced that football would be terminated, the school has decided to reinstate the program, according to ESPN's Alex Scarborough and multiple reports. UAB officials have scheduled a 5 p.m. ET news conference.

Interesting. He's basically admitting he and his AD didn't even consider the conference issue when he cut football. In other words, he made a decision without considering factors any of us amateurs on this board would have considered. So he and his AD are unfit to be in their positions.

The question is what would thr BoTs do after the announcement of football being reinstated?

Wow... All sorts of heads need to roll for the complete WASTE of money here. The cost of re-instating a program that was terminated has to be at least 4X more than if they had either (a) kept the program in the first place or (b) kept it terminated. Glad the State and University have that type of funds to throw around...and I hope they don't raise tuition in the next decade.

Not to re-hash old conversations, but was the timing of the decision to drop football right after UAB seemed to be improving, just a little coincidence? I mean, why did they do that this year? Maybe they got what they wanted, they kept UAB struggling. I don't know.
