It's like a muscial, but with more signing, and non-stop miscu. Usually sung in Lanti.
Well if it's done in Lanti then let it proclaim "Opsu Die" are at least "Crape Demi"!
I prefer Crape Demi personally.

Although how you calculate what a demi crap is, I have no idea.

Their vision, mission and strategic plan? The one that trustee Ron Gray suggested to Watts more than a year ago and that Watts has echoed since that says UAB should forget football and focus on building a top-10 basketball program?

So even if the report suggests keeping football (as I would guess it could, since one of the consultants' employees is Kristi Dosh who previously blasted UAB for killing football), they'll come up with something that says they will keep it dead. I'm sure they will point to startup costs or other such BS. They are simply saying they have until June 1 to come up with enough excuses as to why this happened. I doubt they revive it.

They've got no more excuses. If football is not reinstated, they'll use the same reasons and excuses they've been using.

The Univ of Alabama system should just move the med school back to tuscaloosa or maybe to huntsville. All the money that has been pumped into UAB by the University of Alabama system (not the Birmingham system) should just go to Tuscaloosa or Huntsville. The University of Alabama system owns the med school not birmingham. Move the med school outa that awful city.

Free the State of Alabama from Birmingham

Few would go to Tuscaloosa. A major medical school cannot thrive within a university run by the "mean girls" who are most concerned with fraternity/sorority politics (just the white ones) over academics and where anyone who isn't white, republican, christian, or straight is hated by everyone in the community. That is the reality of UAT and Tuscaloosa.

There's a reason the med school is in Birmingham. Its not perfect for many, but life is possible there. In Tuscaloosa, it isn't.

Sorry if it sounds harsh....but that is Tuscaloosa. If UAT wants to start a medical school, they're welcome to do so. Good luck trying to grow an academic school using 'Tuscaloosa values'.

A lot of folks in Tennessee feel the same way about Memphis.

Hell, all Birmingham has done is carry the rest of the damn state on its back for the last 130 years. I'd rather they just said, "Thank you."

The president of UAB can always as a last resort lay blame at not having an OCS.

154 pledges in 6 months aren't a whole lot by UAB supporters in face of the no OCS and that a decision was made to cut the program already by UA leadership.

Not really. The funds were in place along with a plan and suites pledged to be bought when the UAT BOT shot down the stadium. Likely because the plan of shutting down the program was about to come to fruition, now looking back at it.

The rest of the state doesn't hate Mobile.

What is truly striking to me is how gleeful some people seem to be over the demise of UAB's football program.

Between the three teams, how this will affect the band, and all the ancillary people, literally hundreds of college kids (the vast majority of them Alabamians) have had the rug yanked from under them, and some people are just tickled pink.

That is a spite-filled soul.

If the Blazers are ever able to gain independence from the UA BOT move #1 should be a rebranding campaign.

Go from "UAB" to just "B".

"Birmingham Blazers - Finally got our UA removed"

They will never remove themselves from the UA system without "buying" their medschool from them. UAB is playing a dangerous game because at the end of the day, the UA BoT holds the cards and the purse strings- regardless of whatever public outcry currently exists.

Some one earlier in this thread alluded to removing everything from Birmingham but I'm not sure he realizes that some on the UA BoT want to do exactly that: kill off UAB undergrad and leave only graduate programs. I'd be careful to not encourage that.

Its a standoff. The Medical school has to stay in Birmingham. There's a reason why top medical schools aren't usually located in small, monocultural, cities. To compete on the world stage, you have to be a part of it. Doctors and researchers have spouses, and those spouses need to have an economy where they can work. Tuscaloosa doesn't have enough of an economy to sustain a diverse work culture. And that's just one reason.

Now, I suppose UAT's BOT could take the medical school from UAB and simply run in Birmingham. However, I think that even that would cause problems for the school. The kerfuffle over UAB football would look like a tempest in a teapot compared to the long, loud, and incredibly acrimonious fight that would result if UAT tried to take the med school from UAB.

That's not what I am saying.

The reason "Free UAB" won't happen is because UAT will say "Ok, pay 10 billion (or whatever the economic impact of the med school is) and you're free to go".

The other thing I was saying, is that UAT may one day decide to just completely upend undergraduate studies at UAB and transfer all students to the main campus while leaving only medical and graduate studies at UAB. This has actually been rumored to have been discussed by some UA BoT members.

Its hard to believe they would be that idiotic. Sounds more like just made up rumors. The largest city in the state needs a commuter school. Tuscaloosa is just too far away to effectively serve that purpose.

They could drastically cut programs and still fulfill that role. I do believe it has been mentioned in passing but doubt it was a serious proposal, but I wouldn't be surprised to hear it become more serious if little bear thinks UAB is getting "too big for their britches"

Interesting that the med school is under UAB anyway. University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences is an independent campus with a chancellor who answers only to the Arkansas System president even though UALR is just across town.
