Best options or not, you should know that is was Scott Farmer at UL and Terry Mohajir at AState that helped push through both Ga Southern and App State.
No one voted against App.

We are glad to be here. Almost every GS poster on here has said that- well maybe except 1. That being said we are just as interested as any Cajun fan in improving the conference. I would argue especially in the male sports we have strengthened the conference.

Damn right we are. Despite the politics that may or may have not transpired to get us into the conference, there is no doubt both App/GS and the SBC benefitted from our entrance and performance.
Louisiana, stAte, App, and GS....damn that is a solid top 4 to any G5 conference. USA and, especially, Texas State have a lot of potential and are moving in the right direction.

Hello! No one said anyone did vote against you. Both AD's were asked to help in getting everyone on board, Farmer for GaSouthern and Mohajir for App. State. A few State fans know this to be true as well.

I don t doubt that at all. The SunBelt got better with GS and App and GS and App got out of a conference they no longer fit in the SoCon. If Farmer helped get us in we say thanks.

Hello! Who else were they going to vote for?
If you had added App or GS the year prior you'd get some kudos. You invited the two hottest girls to the prom that didn't have dates, I'm sure that was a tough sell.

No one said it was to a prom in Southern Cal, more like a prom in Ruston, LA.

I wouldn't say Ruston, because then all you guys would be missing teeth like golden boy Terry Bradshaw.

USA has been in the Sun Belt fully transitioned for 2 years and has been in the top 4 both years.

It sounds like deregulation doesn't really end this league's conundrums at all.
Most Cajun fans don't like it, but Karl is Jay's buddy, so not really surprising that Jay is defending him.
Jay backs those in power, he probably would have been a Tory in the revolutionary war.
My great great great... grandfather was a Tory(ish) until the British came to North Carolina and South Carolina as part of their southern strategy and the army was taking what it needed and paying less than what was considered a fair price. He and his brothers came down from the hills and fought on the US side. Once the British were out of the North Carolina/South Carolina area he went home. But I've got sufficient documentation to get in the Sons of the Revolution.
Most people align with the current power structure until their ox is the one being gored.

Why do you think UL goes east? AState is the easternmost team in the west.

That's why the Ark St AD quit supporting NMSU for all sports. He didn't want his team having to potentially move east.
Rank fantasy. Terry is still an advocate of NMSU as of last week.

App being promised a travel partner doesn't make much sense. The idea of a travel partner is a much greater benefit to every other school in the conference not called App. If you said the other 11 schools were promised a travel partner for App then I think you're barking up the right tree.
This is the great message board fallacy.
A travel partner is of less importance to the team on an island than the teams traveling to them.
If you want, when you play AState in hoops or volleyball you can fly into Memphis get a couple vans or charter a small bus, play AState, drive to UALR and either fly out of LIT or go back and fly out of MEM.
Having UALR gives AState one bus ride but it is a real travel aid to those coming in.
App is going to be home for 10 games and fly to 10 games. Adding a close travel partner means home for one, drive to one fly to 9. But if they are traveling to partnered schools, they eliminate one flight going to Troy/USA or Troy/GaSt AState/UALR, UL/ULM. App benefits more from those pairings than having one of their own. Likewise USA benefits if a driving distance partner is added to App. Two flights become one.

Yes the schools were the best option if you look at competition.
But if we were running the league on the cheap you wouldn't have been the best choices. We could have pursued a Lamar, Jacksonville State, or EKU.
Want to know why AState and UL fans get so grumpy about expansion talk?
The discussion has shifted from what schools bring competitive value to what schools are cheap to get to. That wasn't the standard we applied in making our additions and we don't like the shift.
