Again, I hope Harnish does well. I've never said anything bad about his character. He seems like a nice guy. But as an unbiased NFL fan, I wouldn't want him as my 2nd string QB. I think anyone with half a brain can understand my point.
I'm curious, Big Man, who do you want as your second string QB? As you, with your full brain chugging along as best it can, continuously imply - you feel Chandler Harnish has an inferior skill set.
This is entirely possible, however we have no body of work to substantiate that hypothesis. All we know about Harnish is he was a decidedly good collegiate quarterback who has yet to play in the NFL.
Calm down, Big Man, I know you want to jump right in and say "the reason he hasn't played is he sucks!"
That could be true, but at one point in time, Kurt Warner was bagging groceries before he became an NFL MVP.
I don't agree with your point, so I guess I fall below your half brain standard. Humor me, please, as I try to muster an opinion with my limited intellectual capacity.
I would prefer Chandler Harnish over many second string quarterbacks in the NFL because he represents the unknown. I know what the Seneca Wallace's, the Matt Flynn's, the Jason Campbell's, the Luke McCown's of the NFL bring to the table. Good God - do you remember when the Bears brought in that stiff Todd Collins to back up Cutler?
So again, Big Man, I ask you - who do you want as your backup QB? Do you want one of these career backups that you've seen play numerous times and know aren't good enough to lead a team with any consistency?
There are a handful of teams that are stuck with STARTING quarterbacks that we know aren't good enough to lead a team to the playoffs, so how depleted do you think the backup quarterback field is? Brian Hoyer and Mark Sanchez were two of the top free agent "prizes" this offseason. That is how bad it is.
The days when guys like Steve Fuller, Craig Morton, and Steve DeBerg - talented QB's who settled into roles as backups - are long gone. In this day in age, there are two types of backup QB's; guys we know are not good and guys we have never seen play.
I'll take the guy I've never seen over the guy who has proven himself terrible. I'll take Chandler Harnish, and find out if he, too, is terrible should he ever find his way on the field. If he is, then I'll move on to the next Chandler Harnish and see how he pans out.
