I want a hamburger!!! For whatever reason beef always sounds great on a friday in Lent.
there are ways around that. for instance, stop being catholic. find a religion that suits you. i'm incorporating many religions into my lifestyle and they can't tell me what to do
I don't believe that a religion should conform to your lifestyle. It should guide you to a better one but that's me.
I know the history behind the no meat friday. It doesn't change abiding by the fast/abstain. I like the sacrifice during a season of penitence. Wanting a burger but denying myself one is a small sacrifice for the sacrifice made for me.
It's probably the knowing I can't have one that makes me want one more.
my religion allows me to be who i am. it's not for everyone, there's no prize at the end because i am the prize. but anyway, you can eat a burger tomorrow. enjoy a lenten fish fry. those are always great. your religion's stance on no red meat friday isn't that big of a deal. so you can't eat red meat one day out of the week. myself, i mostly eat potatoes. at least three to four a day. i am curious now as to the history of no meat friday

I hate all those things.
As for poutine, I've never had it and the pictures I've seen likely mean I never will.
you don't like gravy, and cheese curds, and french fries? i know it's canadian, but dude. for the record, i love canada

Here is an article for you, and even a little nod to Cincinnati at the end http://www.npr.org/blogs/thesalt/2012/04...-on-friday
I worked at Lou Groen's oldest store and knew the story of the Filet O Fish. :)
The myth at the start of the article is the one that most people believe is the reason why Catholics abstain. It's patently false. I'm guessing it started as a rumor during the Reformation by one of the Reformers trying to rile his fledgling base.
The misconceptions I've heard over the years about the Catholic Church are shocking. I actually had someone tell me he would never step in a Catholic Church because they worship false Gods. I asked what in the world he was talking about and he said Catholic worship Mary as a God. ????

I was born and raised Catholic but switched to Lutheran after I married a good Lutheran girl. The misconceptions by the people I know in my new church about the Catholic church are amazing. But I can get almost anything I want stopped at my church. All I have to do is say "That's the way we used to do it in the Catholic church", and it never happens again.
Though I do like having hamburgers before church on Ash Wednesday (getting this almost back on track).

Well, you know, there was a wee bit of bad blood twixt Martin Luther and the Catholic Church at that time. I think it had something to do with 95 theses on hamburgers or something.

I've never met a Lutheran. It's on my bucket list. If we ever have another get together, I'd like to shake your hand.

I had never had poutine before I had it at the Senate a few years ago, no hyperbole here, it is the best thing I have ever eaten.
