If he could broad jump 20+ feet you would have the sports story of the year!
Of course he jumped about 23 feet in the running broad jump. It was a high school track meet. Probably add another couple of feet to that with 5 years of college conditioning.

I think what he is trying to say is that a broad jump, by definition, isn't running. It's from a standing start.
He did the long jump and high jump. The broad jump isn't a high school event, although it's done at the NFL combine.

I don't think people realize how rare a true sub 4.5 40 is. Not, your friend timing you type 4.4, but actual real measurement.
Either way, Ross is an amazing athlete. I see no reason not to put him in camp and just let him be on the practice squad for a year to see what you have. Obviously, he will never be a blocker, but neither was Antonio Gates. Good size, speed, hops, hands...........

He had Big 12 offers after only playing 1 year of HS FBALL.
I've been saying for years he has to look to the NFL with that kind of athletic ability.
That's where he has the best chance for a big pay check.

RE: Richard Ross Participating in ODU's Pro Day
I just want to say that we have been blessed with being able to watch him play for us the past few years. After Bazemore left I worried that we wouldn't have a player who would step up and be that fan favorite, high action, exciting player on both ends of the court. Richard has been that and more. I loved watching all of his highlights on the SC Top Ten. I'll also never forget that block he had against VCU this year, it perfectly summed up that game as a whole. He will be missed

Can't speak for whether or not he'll get drafted late or go UDFA, but I think Ross will be on a practice squad somewhere.

Ok I do like track and field history. Long jump historically called the broad jump. We I did it in high school we used both terms.

He was on a championship relay team in high school. I would guess he could run a 4.45 at least. After a couple of steps he always looks really fast to me.
Just some comparison for you. Vernon Davis ran the fastest time ever for a TE at the combine with a 4.38. He measured in at 6'2 1/2". Ross is listed at 6'7". If he was running "at least" a 4.45, he would be a top 5 pick in the NFL and you would be hearing about it everywhere.
Again, he is not close to 4.45 speed.

I disagree with you but I don't think he has an official time, so until we do, we will just disagree.

Okay, yes, historically it was called the broad jump.
But if you say broad jump now folks assume you mean the standing broad jump like you see at the combine and that's why the response was made.

Not Delusional Taylor just ran a 4.56 40, I feel very sure Richard is much faster that him.

Taylor has also been training specifically to run a forty for the past few months. Ross on the otherhand hasn't trained to run a specific distance since high school and has put on a lot of weight/muscle in his time at ODU. There are a lot more factors than just he was fast in high school, he must be faster now or as fast now that he's in better shape.

I would guess around 4.7 for Ross. If he ran sub 4.6, I think we would have already heard about it.

A 4.7 for Ross would put him in third place for tight ends at this year's combine. If Ross is timed anywhere near 4.8, with his size IMO he will have a solid chance of being drafted.

That is correct. Can't risk pulling something with more basketball game ahead.

I think he could beat TH. Ross is naturally fast and has a sprinters body.
