"Here in America there is a reason we celebrate the Fourth of July and not April 15th. Because in America, we celebrate our independence from the government, not our dependence on it." - Scott Walker

Sounding good.

The left is going bonkers attacking Walker. They are scared because he has proven he can win, even in a lib state like Wisconsin.

I'll be honest, that might make a good bumper sticker, but it is a completely irrational statement. The Declaration of Independence and the Constitution are gov't documents upon which the ideals of this nation were written. Taxes, when used appropriately, enable to gov't to financial a military, a currency and many public works that enable private businesses to flourish. I've always felt the issue with taxes is that in many cases, those receipts are callously misappropriated.

Don't act like nearly every liberal on the board hasn't been experiencing 'thrills running up their legs' every time Obama spouts more of his empty promises or completely ignores another law.

Walker is right and it pisses liberals off. Independence, not dependency, made this country great. He's young and probably still an election or two away from the presidency, but he's 1000 times as qualified as the man currently holding the job.

Honestly I was probably more qualified to be President than Obama.

Unlike him I have actually been in positions of leadership and have tangible accomplishments rather than empty rhetoric that I can show for my career.

He is president of the united states of america, and you're questioning whether he's been in a 'position of leadership'? Wow, the bar for dumbest statement made continually lowers.

At the time of his election to office what had he led? What had Obama accomplished? What had he produced?

I'm still deeply skeptical. What has he done to reduce spending, taxes, regulation, and size of govt in Wisconsin other than the commendable but mild step of ending public unions?

Yeah...I was going to say something similar. We were celebrating breaking free from the hold of England. We don't celebrate independence from our current government. 01-wingedeagle

RE: We celebrate our independence from the government, not our dependence on it.
Quote:Drafted by Thomas Jefferson between June 11 and June 28, 1776, the Declaration of Independence is at once the nation's most cherished symbol of liberty and Jefferson's most enduring monument. Here, in exalted and unforgettable phrases, Jefferson expressed the convictions in the minds and hearts of the American people. The political philosophy of the Declaration was not new; its ideals of individual liberty had already been expressed by John Locke and the Continental philosophers. What Jefferson did was to summarize this philosophy in "self-evident truths" and set forth a list of grievances against the King in order to justify before the world the breaking of ties between the colonies and the mother country.

It's early in this election cycle, and personally I'd like to see him sit this one out and wait. His track record is pretty damn solid, way moreso than Obama's at this point in 07, but still he could use a little more experience. All that said, if he separates himself from the pack and wins the nomination, I'll gladly vote for him.
