putting the tourney in the ne portion on a rotational basis only makes cents moving forward due to relative media coverage.....biloxi offers those that would make the trip regardless with the 'other' amenities....(and also offers those on the fringe something not available in other areas)
el paso only offers those that live in el paso....

Your opinion is worth the same two cents as mine. Can you expand on what value media coverage brings by playing in the NE? Can you also expand on why you think we won't get that same media coverage playing in the SW?

I really don't think it matters in the end where the tourney is held....however, I do believe the "should only be held...." comment by the OP is silly.
If the host team loses, the stands will be mostly empty regardless...

RE: cusa bball tournament at 500 all session tickets?
Somehow MT is pulling in 4,042 with a crappy team this year. We have one game left at home, and that's today against WKU. Crowd will be significantly higher than our average so I expect that average to be a bit more (between 4,300 and 4,400 hopefully) when all is said and done.

The tourney should be in a major tourist city like Dallas, San Antonio, Miami, or New Orleans.

no way to nola based on residual money lost in totality....
however, if it was held in Biloxi, nola is only a hop, skip, and jump away....'team loses, hey guys, let's go get hammered in nola tonight'
just another advantage Biloxi offers in relative terms....

We will agree to disagree. Your thoughts are fair. I just don't believe any fan bases will travel in decent numbers. There is no evidence to suggest that even a hundred fans will travel to the CUSA tourney from any one school.
I don't think it's fair to say media coverage from the NE is more valuable. As a matter of fact, the CUSA tourney might get less coverage from NE media, if any.
Everything is speculation of course. Except that CUSA earns 1.25 million dollars when the tourney is in El Paso. That's already been established.

Maybe CUSA we'll explore that option. There is a lot of assumptions in your theory.
1. That people will actually travel to the CUSA tourney.
2. That they are single and/or party people.
3. That they have a decent amount of disposable income to travel to the CUSA tourney and also enjoy all of the host city's ammenities.
4. That they have a week off of work/school a week or two before spring break.
5. That the schools near Biloxi actually have fan bases that would travel and equal what El Paso or ODU could do on their own.

RE: cusa bball tournament at 500 all session tickets?
I went to the CAA tournament for nearly 15 years straight and never bought a whole session ticket. I only got the sessions my team played in each day. Sometimes when the semis and championship games would sell out you just had to be sure to buy your next day ticket immediately after your previous victory. Or go to a scalper. They were always around. I may go to the CAA tourney this year too. It's a close easy day trip for me, and I like tournament hoops. And they have SERIOUS attendance issues now with ODU, VCU and GMU gone and JMU sucking.
Point being, whole session tickets sold are not a great measure of what to,expect. But I would have hoped for 2000 or more sold by now.

no....what I'm saying is there are other options based on the demographics....I have previously mentioned golf/fishing/poolside viewing/casinos/beaches/food/lodging relative to Biloxi....my homer lobbying is limited to what Biloxi offers.....the macro version is a belief that alternating venues would involve other fan bases so they can experience hosting and those that are relatively close can attend w/o bankrupting their back pocket...I also think it would help unify the different fan bases with all the teams that have recently been added.
the premise from the OP is about "only in el paso or norfolk...."
that's just simple minded homerism hooey.....

Times wont be announced until the seeding is set. The host school gets to pick the time that they play. The host school usually picks the 6pm game. This done to maximize the attendance

I think we have reached the circle/loop in our discussion. There are definitely other options. Whether those options cost the conference 1.25 million dollars is another matter. An alternative venue, in close proximity to different and new fan bases, near northeast media, does little good if only 500 people show up. A bit of an assumption on my part but that is no different than everything you have posted so far in this thread.

I don't see the issue with 1.25M.....that's only 90k per school....hence, not relevant.
I don't know how to be clearer about spreading the wealth amongst a variety of hosts.
I have no problem with UTEP hosting.....just not every other year.
I agree.....time to put this one to bed.

Lots if ODU fans that will travel for a tournament....of course, higher number if we are having a good year IF the toruney is within a reasonable drivng distance or if it is in an area with other tourist options. If the tourney were to be held in Charlotte or Raleigh I would guess close to 2000 ODU fans especially if ODU ended up in the Friday or Sat games. Nashville, Memphs, any FL city probably 500-800. Florida cities might reach the !000+ number if a good year. If we are having a terrific year 300-500 fans will go anywhere!
We bought all session passes. We received our "vouchers for tickets" booklet in the mail Friday. The booklets were numbered 1056 and 1057. I would guess if it's like the CAA tourney each team is givne a certain amount of tix to sell.

It would be nice if they would post a seating diagram so people can see where their seats are for the tournament. Why aren't schools selling their allotment? Why do all schools have to go through UAB? Just asking because that's the way its been done in the past with the CAA.

Mistabinks just mindscrewed you. He made you re-post everything he said.
You make a lot of talk about fan bases attending, unifying and all other stuff, but let us look at it in the real side. ONLY 500 ALL SESSION TICKETS HAVE BEEN SOLD. The tournament starts in 2 and a half weeks, and cusa closes all session ticket sales a week before the tourney starts, so there is pretty much only 1 and a half weeks to sell all session tickets.
92k may not sound like a lot to you, but 92k represents about 5% of USM's annual athletic budget, in a tournament that last only four days.

We're going with a group 3, I'm planning to buy my tickets there. I'm hearing you have to pick up your ticket before each session, I can't beleive they would do that, but that's what we're hearing. I like my tickets in hand and if I want give them away or sell them I can. If I have to go to will call, I just buy them per session. Is this what others are hearing.

How it happened in El Paso, tickets for all sessions were sold up till the prior week of the tournament, after that they were locked out. Only single session tickets were sold after that. If I recall correctly, tickets were mailed out. I don't know how they do it if you buy all session tickets a week or couple weeks before the tournament starts.
