cusa bball tournament at 500 all session tickets?
don't know if this is true, but the tournament has supposedly sold 500 all session tickets. So much for the centrally located teams crying out that they can support the tournmanet. It doesn't seem like a very good decision so far, but we will see. Honestly, the tournament should only be held in El Paso, or richmond/norfolk. If you don't want it in El Paso, hold it in San Antonio

I hope that guarantee was pretty damn good. If not, I think the rest of the schools should foot the bill.

Nobody is going to support this thing at work hours during the week. The schedule sucks. Have the pillow fight round on Friday, the quarters and semis on the weekend and the championship Monday night.

Then you go almost a week to selection Sunday. I like the Thursday through Sunday format. Most people can take off one day from work. It sucks that we have it set up that Friday and Saturday have three combined games.

And those are preliminary ticket sales, correct? Unless I am wrong you can still buy those. Let's wait and see how this plays out before you start this crap.

A couple of things do hurt this year though. One, USM sucks this year and is ineligible anyway. Had they been the same team of the past 5 years or so, I feel that they would've brought a crowd. MTSU is kinda all over the place this year. These are the two closest schools to UAB. we will see what happens, but it's too early to call this a failure.

You're trying to jump to a conclusion based on ALL sessions ticket presales? GTFO. I'm going and I haven't bought anything yet. Same goes for plenty of people I'm sure.

Agreed, except for the profanity. I probably will be there to support our girls.

Last I checked tickets are still being sold. UTEP and Tulsa sold only 2,500 each when they both last hosted and this is private sales (Season ticket holders) to date. Corporate tickets have not been figured at this point which is what a majority of the all-session seats will be as the case with all of these tournaments.

BTW there is a guarantee to host it and it will be paid in full. UAB is not new to hosting tournaments. It's just been a while. Couple that with all the hell that broke loose here with football and it was not great timing. That said it will be fine as Birmingham is a walk up own. Not everyone can afford to drop $250 a piece for the most expensive seat to every game.

No it should NOT be in ElPaso every year. It should be rotated around. Get over yourself.

Regardless of the tournament books sold right now, this league has a serious attendance issue. The league average is 3,700. Two of the top 3 teams in the standings average under 3,500. That's just not good.

I am not going to dump on UAB. I am a big fan. That being said, your AD is incorrect about all sessions passes sold in El Paso. We set a CUSA record. I am not sure what Tulsa did but we sold 4500 all session passes.

I am the biggest UTEP and El Paso homer that there is. Even I think it should only be here every 3rd year.

The CUSA tourney is just not an event people will travel to. Not in the thousands at least. It needs to supported by the host city.

Have it in a major city then. Dallas, Nashville, Atlanta. You have to make it a event to get local support. Include coaching and player clinics for local high schools. Give every local highschool bb men and women player a free ticket and his guest had to buy 1. Market to the masses not just the cusa fans. Until we do better marketing and promotions, we will have trouble getting enough interest outside our die hard fans.

This. UTEP showed very well in both recent C-USA Tournaments hosted by El Paso.

How many were you expecting? That sounds about right for this bunch. That said, in El Paso it'd probably be more like 800 sold (mostly UTEP fans).

RE: cusa bball tournament at 500 all session tickets?
I think this may be the worst UAB MBB attendance ever this year so this year is pretty much the worst year possible for us to host the tournament with the football debacle going on.

2,942 for the year with only 2 home games left.

1,360 less people than last year alone and over 3,000 less than one of our better attended seasons just 5 seasons ago.

We had some bad years after 1995 when we joined CUSA and attendance started to slowly backslide during a couple of the down years, but nothing under 3,000 bad for a year. I think we're going to end up around 3,050 - 3,100 for the year which is pretty dang bad.

Average attendance for each coach from 1996-2015:

Murry Bartow - 4,890 (6 years - 1 NCAA, 2 NIT)
Mike Anderson - 5,208 (4 years - 3 NCAA, 1 NIT)
Mike Davis - 5,070 (6 years - 1 NCAA, 3 NIT)
Jerod Haase - 3,788 (going on 3rd year)

Obviously CUSA has changed dramatically in 20 years, but that is no excuse for our school not averaging 5,000 a year.

A central location like, I don't know, Nashville would probably be a good draw.

MT and WKU combined would bring several thousand each, plus you've got UAB, Charlotte, ODU, Marshall, USM all sorta close.

As mentioned above, UTEP holds the CUSA record for most all session passes sold. It was between 4500 and 5500 all session passes sold.
