RE: UConn BOT adds a meeting for Feb. 25th
Uconn in the big east and football taking uab spot in cusa could work…assuming cusa lets uab stay and they don't' bring back football. THe other thing is who joins the big east with uconn. WOuld temple make the move? than uconn and temple could package themselves to cusa as a 2 team deal, so cusa could find a uab replacement if needed. Uconn and Temple in the big east would make a better hoops league. Yet, this really is a move uconn makes post closing the door on the acc or big 10 or even big 12. Hard to jump to the big east when you really want to jump to a p5 league.

I think the Big East would take anyone to get UConn back and because it wouldn't be for football they wouldn't necessarily need to take another school (Big East basketball was 9 teams for a long time). If I were them I'd go for UMass because it's another potentially large market.
This is a few years off though. I just think if we are looking at 2017 and being in the AAC (potentially without Cincinnati or another attractive school) it's time to realize that the ship is never coming in and eventually it hurts basketball.
Can I repeat again just how important Bob Diaco is to the future of UConn football?

Husky season is over until Fall. No trolling of UConn fans is permitted on these premises prior to football season. By then maybe these issues will be moot.
I clearly haven't been reading the boards enough. And the idea of protecting UConn usually makes me sick, but I'll second JR here.

RE: UConn BOT adds a meeting for Feb. 25th
While I love regional leagues in theory two things are always going to be a problem.
1. University administrators basically like their conference mates to be close but not too close. That is they like easy trips for fans and student-athletes but do not have a great affinity for competing in today's marketplace for fans and don't like sharing a conference with people who fish the same pond for athletes unless the other one fishing is a good distance away. For the most part the exceptions to the too close are schools in close proximity who seemed further apart in the eras of railroad and twisting two lane roads.
2. I am believer that the TV model for G5 eventually becomes a national package but heavy on regional outlets but until someone makes that deal that's not the model. Until that day a Northeast conference isn't going to emerge, the more likely would be a Northeast division of an eastern oriented league.
One thing I see that is markedly different between any potential eastern G5 league and the ACC is the lack of the synergy that ACC has. The ACC has taken a group of schools with good football or at least a history of good football located in a region where college basketball is bigger than college football and aligned them with schools in a region where college football is bigger and likewise has opened the door for some great college basketball programs located in the heart of college football mania and imports their basketball product as a local conference game to a region where college basketball is better appreciated. It's like taking water from the lake next to the glass factory and trucking it to the desert where the quarry refills the truck with sand for the glass factory.

This board is obsessed with UConn. We are fascinating.
I guess it's better than being ignored.

Two things came out of the BOT meeting:
1. UCONN intends to play in power conference “in the near future.”
2. New legislature will put pressure on the presidents of Big 12, ACC, and Big Ten schools to "step up" and let UCONN into a P5 conference.
You're welcome.

How can the Connecticut state legislature put pressure on the presidents of Big 10 schools? What leverage do they have? It sounds ridiculous.
I can see them lobbying for UConn to be invited, but they can't pressure anyone.

So basically, nothing has changed.
Maybe the legislature can issue an apology to college sports for what our current U.S. senator did back in 2004.

They can do that by threatening to write a series of very mean emails, where they will savagely hurt the conference's feelings, as well as the collective feelings of each of the schools and the individual presidents. That's generally referred to as "the Nuclear Option" by those who are "in the know." I fear for us all if the state of Connecticut has to resort to that option. There are some very, very good word smiths in the COnnecticut legislature.

RE: UConn BOT adds a meeting for Feb. 25th
There seem to be 4 schools that are frantically knocking very hard on the P5 door to "let them in." (Cincinnati, Houston, UConn and BYU.) I'm sure there are probably more who are doing so, behind the scenes, but these are the most visible at the moment.
It will be very interesting if this all out assault by these 4 will have any impact at all, or just continues to be a lot of "sturm and drang" amounting to a lot of noise but little else. The last i looked, you still needed to be invited to a conference, and other than the Big12 PERHAPS moving to add 2 to get to a championship game, I don't see any room for all four of them. (Unless the B12 decided to go all in and match up at 14. Doubtful, in my opinion.)

UCONN hasn't been doing anything publicly/visibly for quite some time.
