RE: QB Ingold Offered by Wisconsin
It seems like Wisky is just filling their larder for a rainy day. They have LB commits from guys with equal or better rating than Ingold and they've been playing LB in high school. I'm thinking this offer is just for depth. With Root gone, he'd have a better chance of seeing the field at NIU, particularly since Hare only has 2 more years and we don't have much depth otherwise.

That was somebody else I believe.

It was Hughes. It's in another thread where things are relatively rational.

OT Vince Hughes tells @HustleBelt that the Wisconsin grey shirt offer tonight does not effect his commitment to #NIU

Thanks. I think I'll take his word over the speculation of another site.

On my irrational side, I hope Aaron Bailey gets sick of Beckman and Wes Lunt and transfer here.05-stirthepot

The longer this decision gets dragged out the better it is for us.

+1 ...Wisc ain't waiting waiting all day. They probably want an answer like now and at the extreme latest Friday. They have room apparently for a few more recruits and want to move on one way or the other.

It's actually probably a good sign he didn't jump at the chance right way, but you can't read too much into it.

Or he may have jumped at the chance right away and it just hasn't been reported yet.

I can't speak for the level of HS competition he plays up there in Green Bay, but damn, his highlight tape is really fun to watch!

Hope he doesn't pull a Miles Osei.

Played WR for the Illini, had an ok career there.

Also makes me remember that guy James Vandenberg from Keokuk, IA??? who went to Iowa City last minute, I think we had an inside track on him. He went on to start QB for Iowa and was ok.

+1. Plus our success rate for qb's the last 5-6 years is pretty darn good.
With guys who actually get on the field to me. It's funny to see people say "he'll never play at Wisconsin" and then just assume he'll stroll onto campus and play here. NIU is a damn good program and getting on the field here isn't easy.

McIntosh was the Indiana player of the year and Maddie was a 3 star with a lot of offers and neither can get on the field much at QB. Root was a 3 star and I think Matt Williams was pretty highly regarded too. Hare was probably the least highly regarded of McIntosh, Maddie, and Williams and look who ends up being the guy.

Hell, Deion Hallmon had like 45 offers and he couldn't get on the field last year.
I agree it's not easy playing at NIU. And I never said he wouldn't play at Wisconsin. But if they are recruiting him as a LB and he's an all-state QB... what are his chances of switching to LB and playing at Wisconsin? Did he play defense before? Does he want to give up on playing QB or is that still a real option if he goes to Wisky.
If his QB style fits NIU and he believes in himself, we have a pretty good track record of dual threat QB's and our team is successful. If he has confidence in his QB abilities and that is the position he wants to play, it would behoove him to stick with NIU. NIU has been good enough to play on the big stage and get a lot of pub for its' stars. If he just wants to play any position at Wisconsin, then he will go there.

Most dudes play both ways in high school. This isn't a Lynch with the Bears situation learning a new position in the NFL. NIU recruits guys who played safety to play LB at NIU all the time. You think Perez Ford was playing DE in high school? Most recruiting services have him listed as an athlete.

It's not like Wisconsin isn't successful though...this isn't like a guy going to Kansas or Syracuse, it's a huge program (top 15 - 20 in the nation pretty consistently the last decade) in a awesome city, where most of his friends from high school are probably going. You could also argue Wisconsin has a decent track record of taking offensive guys and moving them to defense (Watt).

I wouldn't blame him either way. And either way, NIU football will go on and continue to be successful.

But most prolific high school RB's and QB's want to play that position in college and usually don't switch until after they see it's their only way of seeing the field. In the interview that I saw, he knows he is a good fit for NIU's offense and he must believe he would have a legit shot at the qb position in a year or 2. At least he would be given a fair chance to win it.

Do we want him? Yes
Is he turning down Wisconsin for NIU? Highly unlikely
Are we going to be okay without him? Absolutely

Good for Ingold, if that is where he wants to be, can't fault him for that. Let's get a guy who is pissed off that no Big 10 team thinks he is worth a scholly, that is NIU football.

This guy is still out there...
