What is all we get, we have gotten literally nothing?

I was referring to the email response Bourne sent that was posted a page back. More of the same aka nothing.

oh, I thought you were saying Bourne is releasing nothing today after months ago stating we would see a "comprehensive" athletic plan to brand by today.

Bourne is a weiner but I've gone this long giving him the benefit of doubt in the smarts department, he has 2 and half hours.

Where/when did he say we would "see" anything? I believe the statement was that the plan would be "implemented" by 6/30/15 which does not necessarily imply that we would see or hear anything about it.

Gary, if you are correct, this administration would have to work overtime and stretch to achieve incompetence.

RE: Athletics Strategic Plan
Quote from Bourne: "Over the course of the next few months, both Athletics and the University are conducting national searches to fill key leadership positions among our respective communications staffs. These individuals will play an important role in continuing to develop and execute our plan as it relates to our national profile and brand. "

So it looks like the "national" search for the marketing wiz led him to the guy who gets him coffee and the baseball HC search led him to a start-up working out of a Richmond office condo.

Just when I can't figure out what happened with the Withers hire I remember even a broken clock is right twice a day.

JB used an prominent alumnus to help with the search. If I am not mistaken the alumnus is augmenting Withers' salary.

Speaking of searching for coaches. Heard this on ESPN radio the other day. The host asked the Arkansas AD about using a search firm for hirings. He said he doesn't use them, called it a cop out- that it was an AD's job to find the best hire for their school.

RE: Athletics Strategic Plan
I am going to take a post graduate lesson from JMU today. +2 for Jeff Bourne and Jon Alger.

As often as possible, myself and my department will be implementing deliverables in place of delivering deliverables just in case a stakeholder gets any funny ideas.

Today is June 30, a quarter end. Month and YTD financial statement preparation and review commence implementation in the morning.

RE: Athletics Strategic Plan
I am not sure what everyone was even expecting today. Why did you think there was something to be announced today? From the Strategic Plan...
Quote:Implement comprehensive plan to strengthen JMU Athletics brand nationally - 06.30.2015
Many of the other metrics with deadlines say things like...
Quote:Completion and initial implementation
Quote:Develop a plan
Quote:Develop and implement
Quote:Completion of comprehensive model

There was a deadline today but the deadline was just to implement the new strategy... this: http://jmusports.com/news/2015/2/18/Athl...x#ensuring
So in other words, we spent time making this, we published it, people commented on it, now its time to actually start using it as a formal guideline.

If they were creating something then they would have said...
Quote:Develop, Announce and Implement comprehensive plan to strengthen JMU Athletics brand nationally - 06.30.2015

So the only real question is... did they:
Quote:Develop a plan for Sports Nutrition - 06.30.2015

Sooooo...

There was a deadline in the plan...for the plan...that mentioned the deadline as part of the plan...01-wingedeagle

Come on now...if you're going to put some spin on this, you have to come up with something better than that.

JMU has not implemented any kind of national branding strategy. And the circus continues 03-banghead

That's about it. Until these guys get us out of the CAA any talk of national branding is a joke anyway.

RE: Athletics Strategic Plan
Ok allow me to re-word my statement for clarity. JMU created a comprehensive plan to strengthen the JMU athletic brand nationally. That is commonly being referred to here as the "Athletics Strategic Plan", hence the title for this thread. This plan requires things like:
-certain graduation rates
-certain GPAs
-athlete community service
-have a sports nutrition plan
-win 5 annual conference championships
-compete in 7 annual NCAA tourneys
-Build a new convo
-Be title IX compliant
-Meet revenue goals
Every one of these items strengthens the JMU athletics brand. Which, as we should all be able to agree, is the point of developing the plan. These are all just words on paper until each individual department and program is versed in the goals, what is expected of their department, how they are going to proceed to meet these goals and are fully working towards them. Alger, Bourne, Withers, Ticketing, Compliance, Facilities, Accounting, Brady, Brooks, Olympic Sports, Spirit, Photography, Major Gifts, Donor Engagement, Equipment Services, et al.

Having the meetings, phone calls, webex calls, spreading the memos and emails, getting every one to buy in and start doing their part takes time. The plan was published only 3 months ago. It could not and should not be implemented overnight. A concerted effort was necessary. Therefore to ensure that each department and program had time to do what was necessary to get the ball rolling a firm deadline was set to have everyone on board and working towards one goal by today, June 30. This is 3 months from the release and seems like a fair target date for a organization or entity the size of JMU. If JMU had thought they could implement this overnight they would have stated that in paragraph 1, line 1... "effective immediately this is what we are doing to strengthen JMU Athletics Nationally".

Furthermore, sometime between now and Next June 30 each athletics program will need to create their own team specific Strategies to meet these goals and, regardless of when they are completed and possibly published, they will need to be implemented by June 30, 2016. Not that this extreme would happen, but Football could finish theirs next week but choose not to implement it until next June 30 should they choose.

There is a difference between releasing a plan and implementing a plan and I hope you now better understand what I meant.

RE: Athletics Strategic Plan
The plan is to not really have any plan other than talking about a plan, a really big plan, which they plan on executing...someday...until then just keep monitoring the plans of our soon to not be peers who move up because they actually implement a plan. Yes folks, our apparent plan is to create the first administration / alumni palindrome relationship...give me money to support a plan..give me a plan (and execution) that I can support...

A man, a plan, a cat, a ham, a yak, a yam, a hat, a canal – Panama!

I just want to know the 411 on where the issue lies. Is it the Ham? the Yak? the cat? the MAN? the hat? the yam? It certainly could not be the plan right?

The really painful part is when a DC rep you like and respect calls and asks for money to support the most expensive program by far in the caa.

If we dare asks what is to be done with our cash we are given a canned answer that does not answer any question.

JMU absolutely refuses to say "we aspire to play college football at the highest level"...if we place a bomb under their asses, they will not say those words.

At this point, JMU probably is not the most likely next program to leave the caa. SBU.

RE: Athletics Strategic Plan
They missed a pretty crucial part of the plan.... the fans. Ya know... the ones that give money to the program.
Nowhere did I see a plan to keep current fans and to gain new ones.
Maybe they're developing a plan to talk about that plan.
They have a plan for revenue, but they forgot that they need people for that to happen.
Perhaps they're applying the "Underpants Gnome Philosophy":
Sports->?????->Profit!

Another part they seemed to miss was student attendance and involvement. In order to build and sustain the types of programs we want to have going forward, you need the students to get attached to them while they're in school.
