The SWC never had the clout or money the Big 12 makes. The SWC was dead because it became a Texas centered conference. In business---- you don't normally give money to the homeless. Why should the Big 12 expand to help the homeless? At the end of the day--- the Big 12 conference is in business to make money.

OU tried to leave and they were told NO. OU along with OSU know they are tied with Texas & Texas Tech. Those 4 are a package deal.

OU wasn't told no. They were told to go ahead and leave but that if they did Texas was going to leave for the ACC not the PAC. Big difference.

You are trying to paint a picture that simply isn't true. It's just propaganda.

No you don't. You make the same as the SEC espn deal. But with the new network. The SEC will be making a lot more.

Then enlighten all of us and explain who they are tied to? SMU, Houston?

Great schools in fertile rich recruiting grounds and our 2 largest cities don't have P5 schools

I can tell you this much, tech isn't tied to anyone anymore... I think even the biggest of knee pads outhere isn't going to help tech at Lubbock this one time.

That makes sense. I don't think Texas will want to go anywhere alone though. I think Baylor likely tags along but Lubbock is way out west.

Can you provide a link for that? I have Level 1 info from Tech insiders that OU tried to leave and they were told no. Who told them NO is up for debate. Texas was never interested in the ACC.

All 5 conferences are making insane amounts of money. The difference is we split it among 10 instead of 12 or 14.

I still think Texoma4 to PAC16 will happen...but maybe just me. Tech will be fine...despite current success, Baylor and TCU have fewer options.

You have your "sources" while I have actual video of Dodds talking to an actual Chamber of Commerce about the business of Texas Athletics.

He starts talking realignment around the 19 minute mark. I know, you are probably going to start calling him a liar. It is usually what most Big 12 folks do when they see this. I am sure it is quite shocking.

Houston isn't in a p5 conference b/c of its lack of athletic support then, but has now aggressively turn the corner with its elevation to Tier1 status and a beautiful new football stadium.

Baylor, the school that Texas tried to leave twice?

Baylor is not the Baylor it used to be. It has a brand new shiny Stadium that is tailor made for TV. They have one of the strongest Athletic Departments in the conference in regards to the money sports.

Top notch Football and Basketball programs and a top notch women's basketball program. What does Tech have? I am not trying to start a pissing match but if you are going to dodge the major points then so be it.

Dodds was told thanks but get out. He oversaw the biggest athletic budget in the country and produced very little considering.

Spot on. The brand has been diluted by favoritism and being short sited. The only thing that keep the conference from imploding when Colorado, Texas A&M, Nebraska and MIZZU left was it happened so fast and unexpected that the remaining members had no plan in place for a safe landing. They circled the wagons and signed the GOR so they wouldn't be left out in the cold. The reason they don't want to expand at this time is because they know that the only available canidates will not strengthen the brand but maybe dilute it. You can bet your bottom dollar when the GOR expires this time schools like Kansas, Oklahoma and Texas will not be caught with their pants down. I'm sure they have had or will have secret discussions with conferences that are like minded, stable and financially secure. Not sure how much Kansas & Oklahoma are tied to Kansas State & Oklahoma State. The only Hail Mary they have is convincing FSU, Clemson or Miami after ACC GOR expires is to move to a football centered conference. I just don't see that happening but that's probably their only chance of remaining a P5 conference.
