I get it, but just for fun...How? Other than years coaching. BTW, Barnes is they guy I wanted when Cal left. Don't know if RC ever talked to him.

Barnes has 16 years at TX.
14 NCAA appearances
Three sweet 16s, 2 elite 8s, 1 final four - so 6 runs worth talking about in 16 years
16/6 = 2.66
So something good every roughly 2 1/2 years.
Year 4 S16
Year 5 Final Four
Year 6 S16
Last 2 years were weak but this year (17) is looking pretty good.

Barnes is a recipient of a school that somewhat recruits itself. He's seen to be a mediocre coach at best. Whoever we get next I hope it's a guy with some moxie. Good hard nosed coach. Barnes is too nice for me. He always looks like he has that deer in headlights look.

Texas is a plum job because basketball is a distant second to fans. No one gets upset enough to do anything when they are really bad as they were a few years ago. Several CBB writers/analysts say it one of best jobs in country for that reason. And whoever said Barnes makes less than Josh is really uninformed.
And I certainly value Mike DeCourcey's opinion more than any poster on this forum regarding college Bb.

I agree he has done good things at TX. but over the last 5 years he and JP have the same resume pretty much. I was just pointing out that even Barnes stumbled for a year.

I agree with this, however if my choices are Josh or Barnes I'll take RB eight days a week. Yes, we can do better than RB.

RE: Asked respected national sportswriter what is wrong with Tiger Basketball Program
Every coach has an X's & O's guy on the bench. Josh has had opportunity after opportunity to go out and hire a veteran bench coach, yet he has refused to do so. To ignore such a pressing and obvious need is troubling. Now, Aki and Kirby have a lot of experience - both men know basketball, don't get me wrong. But no one would categorize either purely as an "X & O" guy.
IMO, the bigger issue is staff chemistry...
Josh has Willis Wilson on staff and he couldn't wait for the season to end, I know that for a 100% fact - heard it from someone very close to Wilson 3 years ago. It has a lot to do with favoritism and it's a problem that persist on the current staff IMO. I've referred to that in other threads for a while now...
Player chemistry is just as important as staff chemistry - something that, I think, has plagued Josh's tenure here. I'm not talking about coaches leaving to become HC or take an asst. spot for their lifelong friend. I'm talking about a team recognizing that some of the coaches don't get along...it divides a house.

I'm sure his assistants realize they are smarter and know more than JP. When JP will not listen they probably just mail it in, collect their paycheck and move on. I imagine his hard to follow JPs leadership

Just my opinion ...
I think Josh has buddies and josh has assistants. Murphy was his buddy. Julian is his buddy.
Aki and Kirby and Willis and Cyp (to an extent) are/were his assistants. They're there to connect with players and recruit.
Josh relies on his buddies to game plan and coach - those are the guys he trusts and listens to.
Again, just my opinion ...

Josh is the laughing stock within the ranks of premier college coaches. For a while (albeit a short while) I assumed the talk was mostly that of jealousy. It's actually insight from experience, knowledge and wisdom.

That's a national sportswriter's way of cticizing the coach. That's the closest one of them will come to saying "Josh can't cut it". Just read between the lines.
