Marshall playing in the big bowl would set a precedence on scheduling weak that I don't think the committee wants to make.

The very fact this thread exists shows why we should just wait and see how the rest of the season plays out. At this point, the best thing we can hope for is that nobody got hurt jumping off the ECU bandwagon. There's no need to jump on anyone else's bandwagon yet.

Agree with the OP. There's no realistic -- I won't say impossible, but it's close -- path for the AAC champion to get the Access Bowl at this point.

wouldn't take all that much.
La Tech over Marshall
Nevada/SDSU over Boise/CSU

Think Cincy/Memphis/UCF would have a real good shot vs LT/Nev/SDSU/NIU.

The reality is that can all change in a week. Just like it did with UCF/UCONN and ECU/Temple. Welcome to college sports.

Correct. The American needs upsets in the Mountain West and C-USA. I am not sure what to make of NIU. Best win is over Toledo right now.

I'm not a Memphis fan but I would love for the Tigers to have their shot... It'll be interesting to see how this system plays out.

Well Rice would be the hottest team with 10 straight wins if they win out. 2 of their 3 losses are to currently ranked teams.

Rice would be interesting. Think that ODU loss would be an absolute killer.

Would think IF it came down to Rice and Memphis winning out, the Houston vs. ODU losses would be scrutinized...don't think it'll come to that though. As a Memphis fan, I feel for Marshall fans, but at least the Tigers had the opportunity to quiet the naysayers "on the court."

It is still quite possible that Northern Illinois is the Access Bowl participant.

All it takes is for Nevada to win the MWC, and CUSA West to win CUSA Championship.

It doesn't matter if Marshall and/or Colorado State/Boise win out the regular season. If they are beat in the CCG then neither are Champs and are not eligible and NIU will get the nod over any 3 or 4 loss MWC/CUSA/ACC Champion.

If the 2007 season was as long as a NFL season, it would happened. So many upsets. LSU had 2 losses and won the title.

If Nevada wins out- beats Boise in the title game, they would be 10-3 and have wins over Boise and BYU. Also lost by 7 to Arizona.
NIU would still have that 38 point blowout against Arkansas- and a much weaker conference in general. Nevada would have a fairly big SOS advantage- right now 53-52 right now vs 43-63.

Also Cincy would be a factor. Right now they are 49-51 SOS.

Defintely not a definite to say NIU would get the nod automatically. Heck right now, don't know if they can even get it pretty much no matter what now.

It's entirely possible that no G5 champion will have fewer than three losses this year. Would that change any minds (that matter) about limiting the access slot to champions only?

We played Rice and Marshall at home (saw both up close and personal) and 'Rice aint no Marshall'.

When you put forward the idea of 10-3 Nevada being an attractive champ you lose at that point the advantage of the MW Mountain being the strongest division.

NIU doesn't look like a strong 2 loss right now but closing on the road with Ohio, WMU and BGSU would change that

All G5 schedules are pretty weak IMO.
