Not only that, but they did the wave while the team was losing. The white out, the card stunt are fine. Then comes the actual cheering on your team. The fans looked good on national TV in the beginning, but all that was lost when everyone started leaving the stadium.
It seemed the day was all about the fans and not the team. In the Friday Night promo spot on Monarch Media, Ted Alexander proclaimed that "We're" making history.
No Ted. The fans aren't making history, the team is.
Passionate fans will always use “WE”
This is something you really want!
FANS are invested in the team and always support and defend it.
But they can also be critical about analysis of the team
That is why the Term “ 12 Monarch” is used!
So that "we" feel part of what is going on.
Part of the action!!!!
Does our participation play a major part in determining the game’s OUTCOME?
NO! But I assure you it plays a part in the player's mindset and in the mindsets of recruits.
Evidently "WE" decided to amuse themselves with the wave while our team was down. How demoralizing is that? Part of the action? Looks like all "WE" did was play to the cameras and when it was done, "WE" didn't have confidence in a Monarch comeback and left the stadium early. Such passionate fans we have.
Totally missed the point.
Nothing you are referring to are from passionate fans.
Kids starting the wave or should I say attempting to-
Just kids having fun!
I am an alum of ODU "twice"
I am guessing you are.
I know you are proud to be a Monarch! You show your passion !
I am a-
21 years season ticket holder for basketball
5 year season ticket holder for football
Past season ticket holder for baseball
( can only make about 10 games
A season now)
I Have donated to Big Blue for 21 year -started before I graduated
I have a ODU license plate on my car.
And the list can go on and on with items in my life that are tied to ODU
Do I use "WE" a lot when describing details about ODU no matter if it is Sports related or university related?
You dam right I do!
I feel "WE" all should.
Encourage others to do the same.
Passion for something is contagious
It breeds pride and commitment from others!
Friday night was not only about the Football team. It was about the University! Even though the ending was no what we all hoped for
It was history that we were all part of making.
I still consider and will always consider myself as part of the university.

I wanted to be part of the "we" so I started making contributions lo those many years ago. Even when I'm critical, and yes I know you are stunned to hear that I am occasionally critical, I make those criticism within the context of the "we" wanting only what I think is best for the whole.

RE: 12th Monarch suggestion
I don't ever use the word WE when talking about my favorite professional sports teams and despise when people do. When did they put YOU on the payroll? However, I DO use WE frequently when speaking of ODU's teams, because I feel like I AM ODU, a graduate, a fan, a donor, etc. Since, ODU has begun football, which in turn led me into mega ODU fandom of all sports ODU, I have found I have really lost my passion for professional sports, anyway. I still watch, support, discuss, but it just isn't as important. I feel infinitely more invested in ODU.

I am the same way. I used to be a die hard Dallas Cowboys fan and would never miss watching a game when it was televised. Now that we have ODU football, all my passion has transferred and I haven't watched a full Cowboys game in years. NFL is also not as important as college football whereas before I would never watch college football.

Same here, except the Cowboys part! I still watch pro games mostly casually. I used to never watch college sports. Just today, I was thinking that, although, I don't want to wish football season away(I counted every day down from that UNC debacle to Kickoff this year!), I sure was ready for college basketball to start. There are games to watch every night!

Same. The NFL for the most part is dead to me now for all the above reasons. Only took me 10 years after graduating. =]

RE: 12th Monarch suggestion
Though I am not an alumnus, I am the father of two alumni. I am also a six-year member of ODAF and six-year football season ticket holder, and I am a passionate fan of ODU athletics, particularly football. You may notice that I most always refer to either ODU or the Monarchs in my posts. That is because I do not feel a sense of entitlement. But you may also notice that I do occasionally write "we", and that is because I cannot always contain the passion I have for the Monarchs. I still have pride in being a "12th Man", but I am much more proud of being a "12th Monarch."
I hope you understand when I say, "Gig 'em, Monarchs!"

RE: 12th Monarch suggestion
I feel the season ticket holders, ODAF members who watched the start of football do have a vested interest and are part of the team. I think of myself as a shareholder. The whole message from Bobby is the 12th Monarchs and what they bring. We're a huge part of the gameday, the noise that causes a false starts, the sellouts. You got to believe we're part of it, cause there is no team without us.
