Giving up 583 yards, 4 turnovers and 95-and 100-yard TD returns -- on a pick-6 and kickoff, respectively -- will do that.
Looks like bad coaching to me.
Not to mention two 80-yard TD passes. They go from up 17-6 early in the 2nd quarter to down 48-20 by the middle of the third.
KO following TD to take 17-6 lead, give up 80 yard TD pass, 17-13, 13:00 2nd.
90 yard drive to TD, 17-20, 2:13 2nd.
Drive it down, give up 95 yard pick 6, 17-27, 0:02 2nd.
Kick off to start second half, immediately give up another 80 yard TD pass, 17-34, 14:41 3rd
Drive down and kick FG, 20-34, 9:24 3rd.
Give up 100 yard kickoff return, 20-41, 9:08 3rd.
Turn it over following kickoff on own 23, give up TD, 20-48, 8:27 3rd.
I'd say that any team that gives up that many big plays was clearly poorly prepared. Obviously they have a problem in the secondary. And they have a problem with kickoff coverage. And you would have to question the play call that led to a 95 yard pick 6 with 2 seconds left in the half. The 90-yard drive is the only UCLA score in the sequence that doesn't evidence some kind of severe breakdown.
One thing this illustrates is that the one place you can't be bad is defending the deep pass. Just an example of how quickly it all comes unglued if you can't.
