Rice v ODU: *** Post-Game Thread ***
Was going to call it the "Positives" thread, but...
What I learned:
Our depth on defense is approximately 0. Need everyone back healthy asap.

I learned that Bailiff is still Bailiff. All momentum lost. Flashback to 2009 and after the breakout season, Rice started 0-9.

yeah, he wouldn't fire his DC then either.
Both 10 win seasons ended with contract extensions….
Dr K wanted a signature win. Well ODU got their first FBS ROAD WIN.

Great game from y'all Rice. I was definitely worried about that whole second half. Such a nail bitter! I know y'all wish our first conference win wouldn't have been against you all, but I wish y'all the best of luck the rest of the season!

(I only watched some of the first quarter and all of the last.)
Do we really put this on the DC?

Missing Covington was huge. We had 0 pressure the whole game and refused to bring blitzing help. Not surprised that a quality QB could throw for 430 on us with that scheme.

Oline was great. Davis ran well. Those are my positives.

I hope this game is a wakeup call to the coaches and players. Just because we are the defending champs and hung in there against the big dogs like aTm, doesn't mean our CUSA opponents are going to rollover for us. We need to bring it the rest of the season.

Heartily disagree--back then we would have never climbed back into the game, especially with this many guys banged up. (this comment is regarding lost momentum and not Bailiff being Bailiff)

Maybe not surprising, but, nevertheless, fairly inexcusable to give up that many long passes. Very disappointing performance!

If your QB doesn't get hurt, different game.
Huge win for our guys though... Good luck the rest of the way.

I think our offense has showed that it can move the ball against anyone. And that seems to me to be a credit mostly of the O-line, which seems above average for conference. At QB and RB we look about average, and at WR we look below average.

Momentum lost = hindering 1) new fan attendance to subsequent Rice football games (lost ticket sales, lost concession sales, lost merchandise sales), 2) student attendance at future football games, 3) likelihood of increasing season ticket sales, 4) likelihood of increasing donations to Owl Club and EZF, and 5) chance to get out of CUSA

Glad that no one here realizes that Covington was provisionally cleared to play today, but Bailiff held him out. You know, because we're supposed to kill ODU haha.

I am sick.
You've got to give ODU's offense credit, especially Heinicke. They're execution was close to perfect. But really, there is no excuse for this loss. We looked like the better team, but: three straight games with no turnovers for our defense. We truly have no depth after the first 11 on D, so if we're injured our coaches need to take some chances on D to create some turnovers. Our running game was absolutely dominant. With no turnovers, there's no reason we should have had only 42 points. Bailiff being cautious in the first half came back to bite us.
It's going to be a long week waiting for the next game. A similar result next week against S. Miss and, sorry OO, I'll be jumping right back on the fire Bailiff express.
