Outstanding game by the defense today. ( wow it feels weird writing that) Proud of the guys. Go get one at Rice!

Terrible game by the offense across the board. Missing Tyler Fisher and Troy Butler (got injured early in the game) really hurt. We are lucky that EMU doesn't have a QB or receivers. Solid effort by the defense, but honestly EMU had chances to hurt ODU and just couldn't execute (falling down, dropping passes, etc.).

the first Hampton home game was pretty awful. UD wasn't good either.

The Pitt game last year was much, much worse. Heavier rain and cold. I was there. The rain tonight was no excuse. Wasn't that bad. My 5 year old son was making catches in the parking lot that our reveivers were dropping. Hoping they either partied too hard last night or we were holding cards for next week and this was a fluke. I knew something was wrong when it was 1st and 25 in the first quarter and Wilder called 3 runs and a punt.

RE: Game 3: Eastern Michigan
Just got back. The rain (if you call it that) was a factor but NOT the reason we sucked on offense. The O had a horrible game. TH was not good, the right tackle was toast ALL NIGHT, the receivers were not good for the most part.

Troy Butler injured his left ankle.

EMU is horrible offensively, the only thing they had was a Jet Sweep that somehow worked three different times.

It was nice to gut out that win. PS, the elements were not that bad. I sat in my seat wearing a T-shirt and khaki shorts the entire game with no raingear.

RE: Game 3: Eastern Michigan
There was so many dropped passes. Easy passes. Rain or not, if you get two hands on the ball, you catch it. Unless of course the DB breaks it up. Now I don't want to blame weather, but I think it's pretty safe to say we would have at least done better on offense if it wasn't for the rain. Granted I don't think we would've done as well on defense either. It helps that EMU's offense was just not that good. I went on the EMU boards and one of the guys said that they were not impressed with Heinicke. I tell you what though, their defense wasn't the best one I've seen either, so someone is wrong. If they had watched any of our other games they'd know that's an incorrect statement. haha

Edit: Heinicke didn't play that well this game, so if they're basing that off of just this one game, then that wouldn't be fair.

Agreed 100%. EMU was arguably the worst team offensively that I have seen ODU play. Their QB had several opportunities and wasn't even close to being accurate with the ball. They should have started the 2nd QB to begin with. They are a pure running team with ZERO passing. The 2nd QB was a much better fit for the package they run IMO.

I thought there another QB out there. The 2nd QB was the one who seemed to run a lot, correct? Was wondering why the QB suddenly started running in the 4th quarter. lol

To be fair, Heinicke really hasn't looked very well thus far. He played alright against NC State but he has 4 picks in 3 games. A new receiving core is likely a big factor in it.

Ehhhhh, they weren't the worst. The refs at the ECU VT game were worse.

Weather was definitely a factor today. Heinicke's INT slipped out his hand. Both teams dropped way too many passes. College passes aren't your typical pre-game in the parking lot kind of throws in terms of velocity, so that's not really a fair comparison.

If we could go back to playing a hurry up offense TH would have caught half of EMU defense off every play just about. Instead we watch how EMU defense lines up and then run our plays

Heinicke looked fine in the 1st half. If the receivers catch their passes and don't fall down we go into HT up 35-0 and TH has 300 yards. The INT was bad, but otherwise his 1st half was flawless. The receivers on the other hand sucked.

Weather was a "factor" and that is about it. Half the country plays in worse conditions in a given Saturday and rarely is anyone this bad.

Not sure that i agree weather wasn't a factor. I didnt have rain gear either .... performances weren't good on either side but I think weather was somewhat a factor for both teams.

Nice to get the win no matter how it looked IMO. According to a tweet from Minium, Heinicke said he got a bad shoulder sting from hitting the ground hard at the end of the first half. He says it's really sore, but he will be fine to start against Rice next Saturday.

He looked a little off when he got up from that shot. He should have gone out of bounds rather than taking that kind of hit. It could have been trouble.

Watching the Rice-A&M game as I write this - if we don't step it up a notch or two by next weekend, it could get ugly for us. (they are playing a lot better than the score indicates)
