RE: If we were to split with UCLA and Ole Miss
Wow, honestly I was hoping we didn't lay another egg against Middle. Nothing has sapped the enthusiasm out of our early seasons like the losses to Middle have. If we have improved as a program and I believe we have its time to start winning those games. Between UCLA and the Bears, a Mississippi win means more with recruiting.

If we were to split with UCLA and Ole Miss
UCLA would be a much bigger win.

RE: If we were to split with UCLA and Ole Miss
Ehh in my opinion players who wish to go to SEC will go there, so for example if Alabama, Tenn, or Georgia doesn't select the kid he just may pick Ole Miss (the juggernaut is the SEC). You're not just going to get players who wish to play in that conference, at least NOT YET until you grow the program through BIG time wins.
We are not there friends. The objective at this time in 2014 should be BIG time wins to get your name out there as someone to look out for and the pieces such as recruiting and an increased fanbase will inevitably take care of itself.
Beat the bruins baby!!!

A win over UCLA would be far more valuable. They are ranked higher and better known nationally. Besides, we have never beaten UCLA, whereas we have beaten Ole Miss many times.

Either is a big deal. Both would change the program.

UCLA so that the Tigers can be 3-0 in the City of Los Angles.

We play UCLA then later Mississippi.
Using their casual nicknames hurts us and helps them.

Beating UCLA will have zero effect on recruiting in this region. Recruits in this region feel the Pac 12 is an inferior conference and it would be looked at in that respect.
It's going to take more than just one win over either program to get recruits to choose us over OM.

Indeed. Truth be told, I know folks who have moved here to L.A. from all places in the states and around the world who know of UCLA but have never even heard of Ole Miss...epic no brainer. Think in terms of the future of the program and not for your own water cooler 1-up interests.
Big picture and stay thirsty for it my friends.

I'm an Ole Miss football fan and I can tell you...UCLA would be more impressive. You can talk trash either way, you would've beaten a ranked team in both instances. But no one cares about Ole Miss outside of this region. It won't help recruiting...Freeze will still get his share of the Memphis kids, along with Saban, Richt, Mullen, and Jones.
Going across the country and beating a Top 10 team...with a national presence...with a Heisman favorite...a top NFL draft pick...a team who many think will be a part of the CFB Playoff ...that's better.

RE: If we were to split with UCLA and Ole Miss
Neither are gonna matter too much.
Our biggest game this season is the MTSU game. If we beat both/one of UCLA or OM, and lay an egg against MTSU, then it won't matter at all.
No one will really care if we beat UCLA- they'll talk about it for a couple of days, but won't really matter...UCLA isn't some type of football royalty (even though they'd like to think they are). They are a very good football team, that has several outstanding players, but they aren't "elite"...most are picking them because its a bit of down year elsewhere.
Neither will help recruiting. See 1996.

No preference - just beat both - or - beat one and play the other one close - then take care of business against Middle and the program begins to get some national sizzle.

Now that some of you have weighed in, I will say I would rather beat UCLA of the two.
I'd love to win both, but the presumption was if we split.
UCLA would be national news. Ole Miss, outside of 200 miles no one would give a rat's you know what.
Someone mentioned recruiting, beating UCLA would give us a hell of lot more street cred than beating Ole Miss.
Anyway, Go Tigers. #onegameatatime

You could not be more wrong. A win over ANY ranked SEC school will carry a lot more weight than a win over any ranked Pac 12 school when it comes to recruiting.

I disagree. Beating Ole Miss won't change anything. Just like beating UCLA won't change anything. In regards to recruiting. Ole Miss sucked for years...still came into Memphis and nabbed kids. Same for Tennessee, Mississippi State and Vandy. Heck, State beat Ole Miss head-to-head 4 out of 5 years...Freeze still gets the best kids in that state. One game doesn't matter that much...
The kids who can play Big 6 ball will play Big 6 ball.
That being said, choose the game you'd rather win based off national recognition. UCLA would garner more national attention.

Based purely on when they fall on the schedule, I would say Mississippi. A win against them could propel us into conference play with some real momentum, while a loss to them could stop whatever momentum we had going up to that point. If we were playing UCLA after MS then I would say UCLA.

UCLA...we've never done that. We beat the best Ole Miss team in my lifetime. Been there done that.
Tell somebody your alma mater beat ole miss and they say, "So, who doesnt." Tell em about the time we beat USC and they are impressed. So UCLA.
Just a better win over a Pac12 contender. Ole Miss is a SEC west 4th place contender....lmao who gives a frick
I want us to beat them but its not gonna be a shocking kinda big deal never done it before

you are drinking the koolaide the sec is selling. a win over a big 6 SEC school carries a lot of weight. A win over ole miss, not so much anywhere other than north mississppi and west tennessee.

Big 6 ball my arse. The real big 6 are auburn, alabama, lsu, florida, uga and tamu. ole miss is not one of them. no one other than fans of the two schools will give a frick if we beat ole miss. the headline will probably be that we have done it before and even beat the ole miss cotton bowl manning team. ole miss fans crack everyone up except a certain segment of memphis fans. almost as bad as arkansas fans. what a joke.
Ole miss better have their mind on ULL. Bro Wallace throws the ball to the other team with almost as much efficiency as his own. Laughable. As far as freeze and his great recruiting. surely you arent that naive
Anyone ever think there may be a direct correlation in the bolded part of your post. lol
