I don't think you get the joke. Honors was on rivals spouting out that anyone who doesn't attend all the practices is not a real fan. According to him, any real fan would be out at all the UCF practices every day. Apparently it doesn't matter if you no longer live in the area or have a demanding job.

TLDR: Honors is crazy and UCF only has a handful of "real" fans. 03-banghead

I thought it was an obvious joke. No I don't attend practices but I consider myself a real fan.

Again, you guys have an athletic group of receivers but you shouldn’t minimize the departure of the man pulling the trigger last year. The reason Bortles is a pro is b/c he had the uncanny ability to put the ball right on the money where only UCF receivers could catch it.

The Temple, UL, USF, SMU games are easy examples of where his strong arm and accuracy to get the ball in front of the receiver created a lot of yards after the catch. It was amazing to see him execute play after play like this where if the throw was just a little bit off it’s either INT or a long incompletion.

If DiNovo can’t make plays like this down the field on a consistent basis, your offense will become very one dimensional until UCF proves it can stretch the field. IMO, I think we will see UCF go back to good old fashioned O’Leary Ball as he tries to shorten games and minimize mistakes due to personnel turnover in the backfield and OL.

Got agree. Bortles was the straw that stirred the drink.

He certainly helped but most of our plays were created by yac. Timing and ball placement comes with time. He wasn't doing that his first season and we did well. There is an emphasis on ball hawking this year and our pass rush is shaping up. Our oline is supposedly doing well. With oleary ball that creates tired opposing defenses and with a good running game very few opportunities for opposing qb's against a solid d. We will be fine as long as he limits mistakes.

IMO O'Leary is the best coach in this conference. So If I was a UCF fan, I would trust his judgement on which QB to start. That Bortles guy seemed to work out pretty well... As a UH fan, I just hope he plays terrible on Oct. 2.

You ever here of Tim Salem? The guy who was removed from his OC duties after 2009.

OC Charlie Taaffe has done amazing work with the offense. Brett Hodges, Jeff Godfrey, Blake Bortles, he works with the talent he's got and customizes the offense. Godfrey wasn't that great at QB but watch the 2010 tape and that offense got the job done.

Tim Salem was the worst. I know we use hyperbole a lot, i.e any fan in the stands could have called plays better, but seriously almost fan that was somewhat knowledgeable could have called plays better than Salem. In fairness to GOL with Greco, Calabrese and etc, that was all we had. The cabinets were pretty bare back then.

Not sure it's been said, but the coaches also said, like Bortles, DiNovo is quick to make something out of nothing. Actually really quick...

An interview with Ryan Bass (Knights 247) about DiNovo.
Ryan covered Pete and his teammates in HS as he was a regional HS football/prospect reporter at the time.
Cliff notes: Pete is much like Bortles in the fact that he's a strong competitor, works extremely hard (both film study and workouts), and is a great improvisor when the play breaks down.

The instagram video cited in the interview:

RE: Pete DiNovo UCF QB#1
Most people commenting on Dinovo and how UCF will struggle this year have *never* seen him play. Those who have seen him are going off of the spring game 4 months ago against an excellent senior-laden Knights defense.

Is he going to be as good as Bortles this year? That's extremely unlikely. Is he going to be Greco/Calabrese bad? Also pretty unlikely.

Bottom line, we don't know what Dinovo is capable of yet. He hasn't played a real football game in a couple of years. Anyone who panics before he takes a competitive snap is an idiot. This kid is a capable quarterback and he won't be asked to be Blake Bortles by the coaches. We've won 10 games without an NFL-caliber QB before, and we can certainly do it again with this team.
