That 7-on-7 team would have been a top 25 recruiting class on rivals and as you said, he was the MVP. Just off the top of my head, didn't it include Vernon Hargreaves and George Campbell?

So you're saying Pete Dinovo is worse than Kyle Israel? What is this based on?
Where exactly did I say that? That 07 team was ENTIRELY on KSmiths shoulders, I don't think anyone would disagree.
The early tape I saw of Dinovo just did not 'pop' for me.
I will be nothing but thrilled if I'm wrong.

RE: Pete DiNovo UCF QB#1
1. DiNovo - smart, good decision maker, critics say he doesn't have a big arm. Which the coaches have said he worked on over the summer.
2. Holman - probably the most athletic of the bunch, for whatever reason he's still making a lot of mistakes with the calls and reads
3. Patti - still learning the offense, but might emerge to be the better QB in time
4. Harris - seems like he's going to red-shirt his freshman year and run scout team. Still learning the offense and get used to the speed of the college game.

I don't think you can compare a Charlie Taaffe offense to a Tim Salem offense.
Charlie Taaffe has proved to be a great Offensive Coordinator

I kinda feel that way about all of the QB's simply based on the lack of experience. I'll wait to go see one of the full-up scrimmages before forming an opinion on DiNovo.

If he can have AJ McCarron Game Manager success, getting the ball to playmakers effectively and intelligently, we can succeed at the highest level. Alabama proved that.

With the WR corps we have, our defense, and Stanback at RB, there's no pressure on our QB to go out and win games on his own. Dinovo only needs to control the tempo of the game, be smart, and get the ball out quick.
Not many defenses can defend Hall/Perriman/Stanback in space with a block or two downfeild.

What does Honors have to say on it? He's so much smarter than the rest of us, I tend to take his word for gospel. I mean, he's the only guy posting on UCF boards with a *** laude on his diploma.

I agree, but I also think top to bottom this team is better than that one. But my point is we won't need anything above acceptable quarterback play to get 10 wins. The defense will keep opponents from scoring and we have enough weapons to put up a decent number of points without a superstar QB.
I could see this being like a Peyton Manning/Tee Martin situation. Martin exceeded what Manning did from a team success standpoint because he was a game manager with a better team around him.
Also can't forget that an Israel/Salem combo went 10-4. I have faith in a Dinovo/Taaffe combo to be able to do that much.

That thread targeted at him on rivals was hilariously bad.

I stay after practice for 3 hours to review my notes and review film. DiNovo looked the best after reviewing 40 hours of footage. Honors is a rookie.

Calling BS, fans/media aren't allowed to record the practices. You can take pictures of individual but that's it. Anything with the formations, lineup, calls, will get you banned from the entire UCF campus.

I don't think you get the joke. Honors was on rivals spouting out that anyone who doesn't attend all the practices is not a real fan. According to him, any real fan would be out at all the UCF practices every day. Apparently it doesn't matter if you no longer live in the area or have a demanding job.
TLDR: Honors is crazy and UCF only has a handful of "real" fans.

Again, you guys have an athletic group of receivers but you shouldn’t minimize the departure of the man pulling the trigger last year. The reason Bortles is a pro is b/c he had the uncanny ability to put the ball right on the money where only UCF receivers could catch it.
The Temple, UL, USF, SMU games are easy examples of where his strong arm and accuracy to get the ball in front of the receiver created a lot of yards after the catch. It was amazing to see him execute play after play like this where if the throw was just a little bit off it’s either INT or a long incompletion.
If DiNovo can’t make plays like this down the field on a consistent basis, your offense will become very one dimensional until UCF proves it can stretch the field. IMO, I think we will see UCF go back to good old fashioned O’Leary Ball as he tries to shorten games and minimize mistakes due to personnel turnover in the backfield and OL.

I can very much see that, and trust me, UCF Nation is very worried. It definitely takes a dimension off of our game, not to mention putting in a freshman versus a junior.
One thing is for sure, we'll know very shortly how our offseason went.
Win vs. Penn State against Hackenburg, UCF will contend for the championship
Lose vs. Penn State, and we will be bowl eligible at best.

I think your analysis is spot on. We're going to be relying a lot on the defense this year. We probably won't do well in shootout situations (which we could do last year when needed). I'm seeing an 8-4 or 7-5 year as it stands right now.
