RE: Dem Senator plagiarized his final paper for Masters
He characterized it as some references left out of a term paper....a master's thesis is not a term paper. Diminishing the importance of a Master's thesis is as irritating as the plagiarism.

I'm glad the New York Times posted the graphic. I could see it being unintentional if it was a missing cite here or there, sometimes things happen (for example, failing to include the footnote when cutting and pasting). But there is no way to look at that graphic and conclude that what he did was unintentional.

And if the drugs he is taking are powerful enough to cause that kind of mistake he probably shouldn't be serving in Congress.

As a Democrat he is not accustomed to having his facts checked.

Another bombshell: the paper that he submitted to get his Master's thesis was ... 13-and-a-half pages long..

That's not a master's thesis. That's a book-report.

No. My boss graduated from the Army War College, and we chatted about this yesterday. This is the way that college is run. It's not a typical college.

But, the question my boss had is how did this slip thru the electronic check system that AWC uses on every paper submitted?

Agree. It's not ideological, both sides have people who have done it.

People who feel entitled to live by different rules and cheat the system seem disproportionately drawn to politics.

Giving out a Master's thesis for <14 pages is not academically serious. AWC has some explaining to do.

Another valid question. This situation stinks on a lot of different levels.

Senator Walsh announced earlier today he was withdrawing from the campaign. Under state law, Democrats have until August 20 to name a replacement.

Plus 1 for the Republicans in the Senate.

I don't personally have that knowledge. I'm guessing however that if a news organization is bold enough to use that charge, then they have looked into it.

Considering the source, I'm guessing they haven't. And given the nature of the statements involved, I'm quite certain that permission would be no more than a mere formality. I would assume that if permission were not granted, Amash would be suing. And I haven't heard that he is, have you?

I'm guessing that's one of those lawsuits that will die for want of a plaintiff.

Master thesis' (thesises? Thesi?) are pretty much a waste of time outside of scientific fields of study for the most part.

Want to go do research? Go do research, but don't pretend you need it to prove your education level.. or better yet, go do the research for something and use it to actually, get paid for bringing something important to the table.

They always seem to be .. how much fluff can you put into one document to make it sound all important? :)

There is a big difference between a Masters Thesis and campaign materials.

I also think a plagerized law review article is pretty significant
Biden's plagerism ...well at least one

Some more for Joe

The Biden plagiarism scandal got into the media way back in September 1987 and derailed his campaign for the 1988 Democrat nomination. One is tempted to say that a candidate like Biden would never have won the nomination anyway, but considering who actually did wind up winning it that year (Mike Dukakis), the temptation should be resisted.

I remembered that when Biden was in his mid-40s, he had swiped -- nearly word for word -- lengthy passages from the British Labour Party leader Neil Kinnock. But I had honestly forgotten that when Biden was in his mid-20s, he had plagiarized an article that he submitted while at law school. The continual pattern at different stages of his life definitely speaks to the low level of his ethical character.

****************

I don't have the link, but when the plagiarism thing about Senator Walsh broke open in August, the Democrat Senate Campaign Committee released a very pious statement accusing the Republicans of making up this story, and smearing Senator Walsh because of his military service. Now that two months have gone by, and we see that the GOP had Nothing to do with this at all, I wonder if the DSCC will apologize for spewing out such dishonest bullish*t to the public.
