(07-18-2014 11:14 AM)True Bearcat Wrote:  Here is how I think the 2014 season will play out.

1. UCF 10-2 They're #1 until proven otherwise. I see them going 3-1 in OOC, and dropping a game in the conference they shouldn't. Big shoes to replace at QB.

2. Cincinnati 10-2 I see them going 3-1 in OOC too with a big win at Miami. Gunner Kiel will come into his own, and will be fun to watch. Although they will probably lose to someone they have no business losing to like they did last year against USF.

3. Houston 10-2 with losses to Cincinnati and UCF. Houston will be 4-0 going into the UCF game, and if they win that it is clear sailing until Cincinnati in final week. COuld be the AAC championship game.

4. East Carolina 7-5 on paper ECU has the toughest schedule in the AAC. Their OOC is very tough with UNC, VA Tech, and South Carolina. Best case scenario is 4-0 worst is 1-3. I'm hoping for the best it would make a bold statement for the AAC, and ECU football. If the worst is to happen I can see ECU with the record I predicted. They will drop two maybe three in AAC. What a welcoming to the conference the Pirates get.

5. Temple 7-5 The Owls impressed me last year with a young QB who makes the defense stay true, and a defense that never gives up. Temple will make a bowl, and as the season goes on teams won't want to see them on their upcoming schedule.

6. Tulane 7-5 The Green Wave have a lot to be excited about this season. I think some of the excitement will translate to a few extra wins.

7. Tulsa 7-5 The Golden Hurricane will bounce back, and be a tough team in their debut season in the AAC.

8. Memphis 6-6 The Tigers will build on the foundation their defense has laid, and will figure out how to score some points this year. Will it be enough to go bowling?

9. USF 5-7 they mystery in Tampa will continue as the Bulls stumble through another season.

10. UCONN 4-8UCONN offensive woes will continue, and the American will be a tough road for them this year.

11. SMU - 3-9 It will be a long season in Dallas. June Jones may finally be fired after the disaster of 2014.

It will be interesting to see if I'm am close or totally off this year. Can't wait for kickoff.

Pretty close to my guess....

1) ucf - obviously question marks. Anywhere from 1-4
2) Cincy - 1 or 2 is my range
3) ECU - contender
4) Houston - contender
5) USF
6) Temple
7) Memphis
8) Tulsa
9) Tulane
10) SMU
11) uconn

#1 UCF - Hail to the King, baby
#2 Houston - O'Korn and Greenberry keep DBs up at night
#3 Cincy - Guys please beat both Miamis
#4 ECU - Would be higher, but docked them points for losing to Marshall
#5 Temple - PJ Walker is one of the best QBs in the league
#6 Memphis - Solid on both sides of the ball
#7 Tulane - Bringing back their best team in years, has new stadium mojo
#8 UConn - Became a different team after P.P. was fired
#9 Tulsa - Not sure why they fell apart last year
#10 USF - Guys please don't lose to any FCS teams this year
#11 SMU - They hate their coach, that can't be good for morale

Switch Tulane and Memphis. Memphis over-performed at times last year while Tulane left some on the table.

I fought the urge to reply for a solid 8 minutes in regards to ECU. You think they are better than where you have them listed, but due to losing a game last season to a team that they won't be playing this year, you dock them a little bit on the upcoming season? 01-wingedeagle

IMO top four are interchangeable. UH with the slight nod on the easier schedule and conference opponents.

Many of my explanations are a bit tongue-in-cheek, if you didn't notice. I just wanted to rib you guys for losing to Marshall =D. Your wins over UNC and NCST tell me more than your losses.

I watched a lot more of Memphis than Tulane last year, so that probably biased my rankings on those two.

What's not to get? It makes perfect sense to me.

He's saying that he thought you guys looked like a solid team most of the year, but being blown out by a relatively weak Marshall team calls ECU into question and he can't rank ECU any higher than 4 because of it.

I don't know who has what coming back across the board, but I do Cincy's chances to win the conference.
No UCF, we host Houston and ECU (2 places that will have good home field advantages).

RE: Prediction of American finish
Here's my prediction: The top 4 are UCF, ECU, UH and UC, in some order, and the bottom 7 are everybody else in some order.

Beyond being sarcastic, I believe there are the top 4 teams, then a big gap, and then the bottom 7. Within each group, they are all close enough that any prediction is reasonable.

Aside from a 7-5 record for us, I hope you're pretty accurate in your analysis TB. Having three 10 win teams in this conference is solid and having 8 bowl eligible teams speaks to competitiveness and overall strength of schedule in terms of the access bowl. Having every team at the bottom with at least 3 wins is important as well. We don't need a 2-10 / 1-11 team. Having said all that I'd expect us to go no worse than 2-2 OOC winning against NCCU/UNC @ home. If we can pick off Va Tech in Blacksburg this year 3-1 is not unreasonable. USCe in Columbia will be tough. In conference, I'd expect us to lose at least two, so I think we end up 9-3 or 8-4.

I truly believe in the top teams of this conference. I hope they dominate each week. The American needs 3-4 teams that can win year in and year out.
ECU can be one of those teams. I'm just going low with them. The will crush North Carolina Central, but what UNC team will show up? The one ECU kicked to the curb or the team that laid Cincinnati out? Winning in Blacksburg is tough, but they are replacing their QB, and a handful of other starters. It would be a great win for the AAC if they pull it off. The SCAR game will be tough, and I don't think ECU has the horses to pull it off this year.
This conference has so much potential, but I understand everyone wants out too. Its going to be a fun year.

Not sure I understand all the UCF love, as they have no heir apparent at QB and lost so much on offense.

I see a middle of the pack year for the rebuilding Knights that a faces a pretty daunting OOC schedule.

I ike Houston, ECU and UC in that order.

I see my Bulls as middle of the pack.

meachum wasnt the greatest either and okorn was a true fresh and we still #5 last year and louisville is gone...

bush already destroyed tulane and this team already beat usf, and they lost their best players, good recruits or not ...at worst i see us at 5..under the top 3 and maybe a surprise team..beyond that i honestly cant see us sinking any lower even if bush flops ..gibbs is still a coach on the team...greenberry, matthews, Stewart etc are still on the team..we retunr to much from a decent team to fall that low, even on a slump.
