Yes, but even among the program-fill bowls, some are moreso than others. This looks like it's scraping the bottom.
That said, I love bowl season and hope the fillers survive the playoffs. I watch every bowl I can, usually all of them, and intend to watch this one too. It's a fun part of the holiday season.

We own it, but it is not the marquee bowl. the Tampa bowl vs ACC, The Indianapolis Bowl vs ACC, and most likely the independence bowl would be higher on the pecking order. The Miami bowl is brand new, for now you simply want to get it out there.
We don't have Tampa or Indianapolis bowls. We have St Pete and Annapolis bowls. Also, give me a good reason the St Pete bowl can't be moved to RJS 3 days before or after the other bowl.

Agree that they are pretty much all fillers and I also watch most of them including Sun Belt bowls. The more the merrier.

I almost think it would make more since to get a Christmas Eve bowl around 5pm than a Monday 2pm bowl. I can't imagine the attendance would be that much worse but I know the game would be on my TV that afternoon as we were getting ready for Christmas. Or put it in ESPN 2 at 6PM Monday as the warm up for the MNF game. If that time holds, it has to be the worse time of the Bowl Season.

I'm not too spun up about what this bowl is, or isn't yet... I think it was a brilliant move to form the bowl, it's in a very desirable location in a beautiful venue. Getting BYU for year 1 was certainly a coup. All good news, and I think downstream once the bowl gets legs, if we can lure the PAC this may become our top bowl.
Bit disappointed in the time slot.. But it's just year one. BYU will certainly bring a big crowd.
Someone mentioned ESPN in a comment above, and ownership... So what's the deal, did ESPN want to take ownership of the bowl somehow? How would that work?? We've all learned that having a good relationship with ESPN can make, or break you. I hope it's not turning sour based on this bowl.

I wish other bowls would sign with NBC, CBS and FOX. Have bowl games compete and the ability to switch to a possibly more competitive game. I much rather have the Bowls on on all four networks and cable affiliates competing the week after Christmas instead of prior to Christmas. Maybe keep the Christmas Eve bowls. Imagine the number of Pre-Christmas bowls that could now be played that week. Better for the players and fans but it will never happen since those are the last two things networks care about.

Its not the bottom bowl. Somewhere out there the SB#5 will be playing the MAC #5. That's your bottom bowl. This one is actually a decent bowl, we just have ESPN making a point---Don't give us ownership, and you will get the bottom of the barrel slot. That's fine. We own it. Next time lets negotiate the time slot as well as the price for the TV rights---or just let another network who will give it a decent time slot televise it. Lesson learned.

FWIW, I didn't mean to say this bowl was the absolute lowest bowl on the totem pole, just that it is down at the bottom, in the lowest category. But yes, it has company down there and a couple are even lower.
As for ownership, that cuts both ways. If it's a success, it's a good thing to own it. If it isn't, it isn't. We're going to find out soon enough.

Does anyone know how long we signed on with ESPN for this bowl? I agree though if this is the time slot then we need to look elsewhere when we put the rights up to broadcast it. I agree that we shouldn't go up against MNF but wasn't there a 5pm slot available???

If we ever signed this bowl I don't even know. Shut down the conference at that point.

It's in the bottom half for sure, but I would say there are more than a couple that are worse, based on conferences, locations, times, etc. Here are a few that are worse:
New Mexico bowl
Idaho potato bowl
Camelia Bowl
Boca Bowl
Bahamas bowl
Go Daddy Bowl
On top of that there are 5 or more other bowls that are on par with MBB at this time, and you could argue worse.
New Orleans bowl
Hawaii bowl
Armed Forces bowl
B'ham/St Pete bowls (unfortunately)
HoD bowl
Detroit bowl (who in their right mind wants to go to Det in Dec).
Independence bowl (I know history, but it's really low on SEC totem pole).

Live on ESPN, Marlins Park is proud to be hosting the inaugural Miami Beach Bowl this coming December. Brigham Young University is scheduled to play in this year's bowl game against an opponent of the American Athletic Conference. Tickets to go on sale this Fall!
http://miami.marlins.mlb.com/mia/ballpar...events.jsp
FB schedules lists it as 12/23 (tentative).

A 2:00pm kickoff makes more sense on the 23rd. Not sure why it would be so early on the 22nd as there are no other bowls scheduled for that date.
Let's face it: A bowl scheduled for 12/22 is obviously regarded as a bottom of barrel bowl thus suitable for afternoon program filler. Maybe ESPN has NBA or college basketball schedule for the evening?
Or, since 12/22 is a Monday, no sense is having it get murdered vs MNF?
I think all of our bowls fit in this category.

If the game is included in your bowl pool, you will care because you have $$$ riding on the game. However, this doesn't mean you (or others) will watch—but you do care about the results. Consequently, we are talking about two different things......

Frankly we don't have any "good" bowls. Given our line up, the Miami Bowl is about the middle of our line up. We have the Military, St Pete, and Birmingham as our only full time bowls that theoretically have P5 opponents (St Pete only has a P5 on a part time basis). The Armed Forces and Heart of Dallas bowls have P5 opponents most of the time, but we only have those bowls part time. The Miami Bowl is likely to end up with BYU a couple of times and might be able to grab the #7/8 from the Pac-12 on occasion. That would make it a fairly decent bowl for the AAC (granted, that's not saying alot given the AAC's pretty weak line up---but it's still true none the less).

Sure they didn't pay a fledgling no-name conference that was held together with duct tape, but the exposure they gave us was absolutely teriffic. I take that as a positive, and that they are investing (airtime, if not immediate $$), in our conference. Don't forget we've got a look in renegotiate in just a couple years... there is a reason for that.
