Dem Strategists Fret: Hillary Clinton A Member Of The 1 Percent…
Then again, rich people are only evil if they’re Republicans.
Quote:When Hillary Rodham Clinton said this month that she was once “dead broke,” it was during an interview in which she led ABC News anchor Diane Sawyer through her $5 million Washington home, appointed like an ambassador’s mansion. Mahogany antiques, vibrant paintings and Oriental rugs fill the rooms. French doors open onto an expertly manicured garden and a turquoise swimming pool, where Clinton recently posed for the cover of People magazine.
On her current book tour, the former secretary of state has traveled the country by private jet as she has for many of her speaking engagements since stepping down as secretary of state last year. Her fee is said to be upwards of $200,000 per speech; the exceptions tend to be black-tie charity galas, where she collects awards and catches up with friends such as designer Oscar de la Renta and Vogue editor Anna Wintour.
Such scenes reveal a potentially serious political problem for Clinton as she considers a 2016 presidential run: She and her husband are established members of the 1 percent, leading lives far removed from the millions of middle-class voters who swing elections.
Clinton has underscored the contrast with a series of stumbles in discussing her finances — the latest in an interview with Britain’s Guardian newspaper published Sunday, in which she compared herself with other multimillionaires. Unlike the “truly well off,” Clinton said, she and former president Bill Clinton “pay ordinary income tax” and have amassed their fortune “through dint of hard work.”
Some influential Democrats — including former advisers to President Obama — said in interviews last week they fear that Clinton’s personal wealth and rarefied, cloistered lifestyle could jeopardize the Democratic Party’s historic edge with the middle class that powered Obama’s wins.

True, but that omits the fact that she will have the MSM carrying her water -- ever last drop it possibly can -- to project the most-favorable image of her, and the most-unfavorable image of her Republican opponent.

She really does live in an alternate reality, doesn't she?

Obama's wins were powered by overwhelming advantages of the upper- and lower-income groups. Relatively speaking, the middle-class was the least likely to support him.

I doubt Clinton's wealth threatens her nomination for the Democratic party and it's not like the GOP is going to nominate someone who is struggling financially themselves. There are much bigger fish to fry when it comes to Hillary Clinton.

she could draw a primary opponent, which could turn into a shooting gallery and result in a wounded nominee in november. or, she could put the base to sleep, in which case they stay home in november.
multiple landmines here for the dems.

Kind of funny that the Dems built the idea of the 1% to hurt Republicans
but now it could come back to bite them in the rear.

Who cares if she is part of the 1%? The jealous portion of the base?

Yeah but they'll "forget" she's part of the 1% when they go to vote. Conservatives won't hold it against her either. Maybe this is a sticking point with independents but again, only if the GOP has a less "elite" nominee.

Look at this....we're talking about her financial success which is something the GOP can't attack...she actually got us to talk about something she succeeded at rather than her failure in Benghazi.

. . . success only matters if you run as a republican. As a democrat, you want to wallow in self pity and indignation at your lack of success.

But it may cripple her ability to run as "one of the people" which is clearly what "tough decisions" was trying to set up.
