Yawn.
Delaney wishes he were half the Lex Luthor that poorly written article claims he is.
The B1G is in a dying part of the country and is desperate to stay ahead of its demographic doom.

SEC expansion was pretty strong Texas and Missouri .
Most of the points are valid though a lot of dominoes need to fall in place.

The author's entire position of why he/she thinks the Big Ten will be so dominant is because of the Big Ten Network but fails miserably in understanding that the cable industry is on a rapid decline. ESPN losing cable subscribers for 3 years straight but this yahoo thinks a "conservative" number of BTN subscribers to be more than projected numbers for ESPN.
Cable industry and all these cable channels are where print newspaper was 10 years ago. How many people pay to read the news now? Only Big Ten fans will pay for the channel in the future and it will be no where near 50 million.

RE: B1G and Pac-12 are playing chess, SEC is playing gold fish
Universities Report Highest-Ever R&D Spending of $65 Billion in FY 2011, and we are talking about 2011 so it's probably higher for 2014. We are talking about peanuts with football revenue in comparison to the federal R&D dollars. Look at it this way, the B1G and P12, especially the B1G are trying to corner the market in R&D dollars, hence only AAU schools for the B1G to gain an invite, no different than attempting to corner a market like the Hunt brothers attempted with the silver market back in the day. You can see it, look at the map and the schools they've taken in, Maryland home to the Mason Dixon line, it almost akin to Sherman's march through the south, B1G is fighting a offensive war to control these huge R&D dollars, they are building a critical mass of money TV revenue wise per school where it makes nothing but sense to come over to them, if they issue a invite, due to the monetary benefits. Take this writers $80-90 million per school (once all is said and done) and he said he was being conservative and I agree, any school would be a fool to refuse that type of money. That's why Maryland left and the President said so. They have a strategic plan and they are following it to a T. SEC is just being reactive and the B1G is being proactive. Realignment is not over by along shot IMO once the B1G, negotiates it's new TV contract, they can wait the ACC out and snatch NC and GTech, it's only a matter of time and Texas will join them too (ESPN's firewall they built to keep Texas in the B12, won't once they see the money tree) eventually IMO and so will ND.

That's a nice theory but Nebraska kind of throws a wrench in it.

RE: B1G and Pac-12 are playing chess, SEC is playing gold fish
the writer is an idiot they are too stupid to know that the name of the game is GO Fish not goldfish
then their stupid premise of athletics "power" and TV money to help research when already correctly pointed out that cable TV is dying a death that just gets faster and faster not to mention that the vast majority of athletics programs use 100%+ of their athletics money on athletics and have none left over for academics and many take from academics for athletics and Rutgers that just joined the Big 10 is the worst offender bar none
so they pretty much struck out on every stupid point they were trying to make
then you factor in that at places like Texas their total academic budget is 2.5 billion dollars a year while their athletics budget is 165 million a year and the athletics side is hardly a factor compared to the academic side and Texas is not even at the very top of the research dollar food chain, but will move up with the addition of a medical school........which will probably do more research per year in 10 years than the entire UT athletics budget

Dying? positive growth is still positive growth? Do you realize how silly it is to say that part of the country is dying? Is it growing at the same rate? No, of course not but dying? Don't be a kneejerk retard posting defensively to a personal blog post of someone whom doesn't really seem to know what they are talking about.

Delusions of grandeur? Time will tell.
The OP was thoroughly skewered by everyone else in that thread.

Yeah sure he does? After his subject verb agreement issues I'd say there was little chance he graduated from an AAU school. Ask Crazy Paco about AAU membership and how it is not dependent upon conference affiliation and how the grant money is actually procured. It is somewhat far afield from the presentation of the writer you seem to esteem.
Realignment so far has been about brand, markets, and optimization of those markets and not much else.

I have yet to see any real evidence that athletic conference affiliation has any direct impact on academic rankings or research dollars. Sure most schools want to associate with like minded schools as much as possible but several ACC,SEC & B12 schools are among the top academic& research institutions in the country.

it doesn't
here is a list of the 2012 federal research and development funding
https://ncsesdata.nsf.gov/profiles/site;...g&o=fr&s=a
if you order them by funding levels you will see that Johns Hopkins (few of any would know that is a university much less anything about their academics) is first then 5th is UCSF that does not even have athletics and UCSD is well ahead of any of the UC schools in a D1-A conference and they are DII and a ton of other schools with little or no athletics programs of known reputation and a ton of medical schools that have no athletics at all

Too bad the B1G can't invite Rochester and MIT - they rank ahead of the usual suspects for expansion on this list.

So basically, we are commenting on a post by some average schmo with no discernible athletic credentials as if it were more meaningful than any thread on this site? Why not just go to that site and mock the writer there, where he's likely to see it.

I just consider the source where this comment came from a Rutgers fan. Go back to sleep, let the adults handle the conversation. Thread is not even about UH to the PAC. Oh yea 49-17 wasn't that the score when we played you last season? Enough said.
